Reminds me of this slide from a class I give:


Since we have a bunch of gear heads, the background is that an Aussie turboprop airplane was flying along when the left engine went BANG, the prop quit, a turbine blade blew out the side of the motor and most of those blades went out the tailpipe. Fatigue in the tooth of a planet gear (lower right) for driving the prop was the initial failure and the planet had machined away the sun gear (upper left). When the turbine was instantly unloaded it oversped, leading to the burst of the turbine blades.
