I love the lids on the Jesse panniers. In my right side pannier, I can pack my Kelty 0 degree sleeping bag (http://amzn.to/1uPnWVJ), my North Face Stormbreak tent (http://amzn.to/1qj7w2m), my Therm-a-rest mattress (http://amzn.to/1yjOlj6). my inflatable pillow, sleeping bag liner, jacket waterproof liner, spare rain jacket, extra foam pillow and a can of PB Blaster because I'm betting that one of our group going to Yosemite next week is going to have a sticky shifter after riding on the dusty roads down there. AND... I've still got room to toss in a pair of tennis shoes and sandals.

This means that I can make camp and setup my pad and bag all from one pannier leaving the other one for clothes and food.

One of the reasons I love my Happy Trails, flip lids on hinges make nice places to put stuff. Although you have that "extra" lid storage that is nice.
