There is a case for that ATV winch that Yamaha sells.

Flying over the bars and through the windscreen/dash must not have felt too good.

No kidding. There's an "after" shot with the bike cleaned off and the instrument cluster and windshield held on with duct tape ( hope its high speed rated). I always carry zip ties, I'll have to add duct tape to my arsenal.

I'd chalk that up as a day he probably wish he stayed home...

It happened early on yesterday at Roll The Bones 4 ADV Rally in Laguna Park, TX

They had a hell of time getting it out. Busted the winch on Dody's rescue vehicle. The owner took it to the car wash and duck taped the front end back on. I watched him leave for home on it to ride back to Austin this morning.

There were way more Tenere's in attendance there than I expected. RTB 4 claimed one other Tenere on Saturday. A guy from I believe Dallas hit a deep wash at speed trying to keep up with the group he was riding with and bottomed out big time and put a hole in his sump after collapsing his Altrider bash plate. It was crushed hard against the engine. I didn't take any pictures but it was nasty. I'm not sure my Rumbux would have survived the hit it took.

Another buddy of mine had a big wreck on his 1000 Strom. Friday afternoon.

I had planned on taking the KLR or WR250R this year to ride the technical route but I gave myself a nasty case of tennis elbow doing some work in the garage a few weeks ago so I took it easy. Still 600+ miles and had great weekend.

It was cool seeing all the Teneres there. I noticed your bike but don't think I ever found you to chat. I had a nap as well courtesy of one of those sandy patches on (one of?) the abandoned road(s).

I think that leaves you as the only S10 without incident on the day, save Andrew since he was busy cooking. Heard about your buddy on the Strom when we arrived Friday...hope he's doing alright.

Recovering from rotator cuff surgery. Compliments of trying to ride a 600 pound commuter bike off road. ::005::
So, it seems the Tenere held up better than you. :)

Jk. Get well.

What the hell was that that can suck up an entire bike front end like that? The ground around the bike doesn't look that soft. Quick sand?

No water up-track and trickling below, between the ridges to either side.
Sure looks like a spring and the source here would be the mud equivalent of quick-sand.
I've seen something like this eat a small tracked recovery vehicle that's like a small tow truck on dozer treads.

One of the reasons the the Strom went. It tended to follow ruts with sharp edges more than I liked, especially when they were hidden under an inch of bulldust. Not a pleasant experience, especially with my son on the back. No the S10 is not immune but it is easier to get out of the things and less likely to tip if you come across one.

I feel for the guy.
