Hi, my name is Kelly and I am an addict....It has been 44 years since my last motorcycle free day.
Got my first bike at the age of 5...it was a glorious Yamaha JT1 Mini Enduro 60 in the fall of 1970. Since that fateful day there has been very few days I have not had at least 1 running motorcycle in my garage and often multiple bikes.

Currently I have
1} a 1965 Yamaha Ym1 305 which is a 2 stroke twin and I am halfway through a café conversion on it. The motor is not together, but I have completely gone through everything and it just needs reassembly. Fresh bore and new pistons, rings, pins, clips and upper rod bearings. New lower rod bearings, crank end bearings, seals and all gaskets. I acquired a set of new SS allen head engine bolt kit. A Benelli tank and custom seat/tail section I molded and laid up. A lot of custom hand fabbed bits and pieces I have made for it and it is just awaiting paint and engine reassembly and for me to build a custom set of cone chambers.

2} A 1986 BMW R80G/S that is complete and intact with a new unused OE tank and the red solo seat and rear rack + the large 8 gal Dakar tank and dual seat that sat for 10 years in Parker Az. I have it apart and in process of semi restoration because I think I have decided to move it on.

3} A beat down and broken freebee Honda magna something I have plans to make into a street tracker somewhere down the road.

4} A VERY wild custom BMW R1100RT that I have turned into a GS style dual sport bike based on the Dakar R900RR just more ugly. Kinda like a home made hillbilly version of a R1200 Hp2. I love the idea of it, and it works better than I expected when I conceived the plan, but it has made me want even more....

5} Enter Phil Chanellor.... An ex-BMW guy and S10 convert. That guy planted a seed 2 years ago and I am now "THIS" close. Year end sales, great financing offers from Yami and a VERY deep, very LONG passion with Yamaha.

I have been reading a lot, scouring the net for info, searching for disgruntled owners, digging for a reason to be satisfied with my current steed...all to no avail. A man wants what he wants {yes, a MAN CAN be named Kelly} and I WANT a Super Tenere!!! Dang you Phil...My wife is gonna HATE you when I show up on a new bike and I blame YOU.

Lots of other mayhem stories I will probably share over the future. Hope I fit in, I got thick skin, love to goof with folks, and laughing is key for me...sadly it is usually at myself. ::013::

Welcome on, Kmac, sounds like you'll fit in fine around here!

Good luck on your search - saying the Tenere is a great bike doesn't do it justice - as you'll see a lot of people around here saying (myself included) it's the best bike they've ever owned.

Greetings from Texas! Don't worry about the wife. She will forgive (eventually). By this point, I suspect she has figured out your passion for 2 wheels.

Thanks for the welcome folks, and the likely future patience. I will try to award you all with regaling some of my personal stupidity....there is plenty of that to go around....I am a blast around a camp fire after a couple beers...wait till I start pulling out my xrays... ::025::

Welcome on, kmac. Yeah you gotta watch that 911 guy. If he's like me, he loves to see other people spend money. ::025:: ::025:: ::025:: Motorcycles are sorta like money and firewood … you just can't have too many/too much. Better getter done, son. ::004:: to the Forum. R. ::022::

Howdy and welcome to the forum. Give that scrub brush burning a break, it does stink. Order up a load of hickory to roast and it will give that aroma that makes everybody hungry for BBQ in short order. Cheers!

Hey Kelly,

Good to hear from another rider who started on a Yamaha JT1 Mini Enduro. I got mine (a left over 1971 in early 1972). I can't help but wonder how many riders started off their riding careers on that little minicycle....it sure was popular....

Having started on Yamahas, I figured I would finish out my riding career on one and bought a Super Tenere, cause deep down I have always been a Yamaha person.... ::022::

Best of luck on the purchase....

Rick

Don't think you can go wrong with the Tenere joining your Garage list of bikes. Warning ::024::................Your other bikes will need dusting more often if you purchase a Tenere. :)

Hi from Oceanside!
I was gonna ask what would push you over the edge. I thought I'd let you ride my bike since I ride up that way on occasion (Just got back from Sandia Creek, Rice Canyon, Corser Canyon) Sounds like I don't have to.

A ride was not what I needed to push me over the top....it was yet another BMW failure...this morning I go for a putt and 20 min in it develops this weird POP at about 3k rpms. Not a stutter and not a flat spot in the powerband, more of almost a dead spot. I feel like it is a signal from the EFI controller or maybe a bad injector....done. Time to ::021::

We will see how the wife deals with the big pop when she gets home at about 8pm today.... :(
If no one hears from me after 8pm...call the authorities. ::002::

I got a deal I think was decent enough to appease the wife and get me riding a new T. MSRP $14,792 + freight+ prep+ tax+ licensing+ tire disposal+ green house gas fees+ goodness know what ever else they were trying to charge for {the tire disposal fee is actually true} the grand total was $18,984. not counting any Y.E.S. options that would bring it to just over 20k. I took in a bunch of ebay adds, and online offers etc...and I say I will pay $13,000 OTD total or I walk. 15 min later he comes back with $13,500 otd and we got a deal....nope. He says really? He does the math and the payment is not even 20 bucks different...I don't care....he says what if I sweeten the deal...yada yada I get it with the 48 month YES extended warranty for a total of 5 yrs unlimited mileage warranty, OTD for $14,645 and the 0 down, 84 month financing at 3.4% for a total payment of $198 per month....decent?
