Oh how I remember those days...soaked to the skin in my leathers luggage bungeed to the trail of the bike...and still grinning from mear to ear

Fortunately as I've become older and more frail I'm thankful for newer/better gear and I use Dainese D-Dry which is great, luggage choice for me would be this ::008::

Check the site for alternative pannier style luggage ::008::
+1, my first Road trip I was 18 and had not had the bike but a couple months.

Had a Harley Davidson Leather Jacket I purchased from the local Hog store, not because it said Harley, but because there really was not shit for choice locally then. What your local store did not carry, you had to order out of the back of a Magazine, and there still was not much for "safety" motorcycle gear in those days.

I shortened up some Saddlebags. I mean true Horse Saddlebags to fit my bike, filled them with clothes, strapped everything else on top using bailing twine to tie it down and off I went. I had garbage bags to make everything waterproof if needed, turned out it would snow ::012::

GO GO GO. There is nothing like exploring on a motorcycle. Just got back from 18 days and want to go again already.
When I got back on motorcycles a little over a year ago after being off them for 32 years, I took a 2,300 mile trip. My friend said you'd know if you were meant for it by how long it takes to want to go again.
I was planning my next trip in my head on the way back!
I'm going on that trip June 6 - Grand Canyon! A bucket list thang.

Taking everyone's advice I decided to invest in some better gear. I have order the rev'it sand 2 jacket and pants. I am also ordering the alpinestars wp scout boots. Once I get these in and paid for I will take a deeper look at the luggage situation, of course I will need to look into some ldcomfort items as well.

My first real long haul road trip I was 22 years old.
Honda GL1100 gold wing my first pride and joy bike back in 1982, Tampa, FL to Santa Fe, NM made it in two days!
I went again the next year and then headed up to Colorado then across to Chicago then back to Florida.
I was doing something I always dreamed of doing, still have the adventure in my blood as well as the dreams but now I also have responsibilities to go with the age as well!
Never the less I try to do what i can to see what I can.
You can't take it with you when you go so Go Go Go. ::003::

Last two summers I've gone Indiana to Colorado. Last summer was awesome 11 states 10 days. Fun in the sun. That was on my smooth as silk FJR1300. now with the 2012 SuperT, I'm itching to take a long trip. My old riding gear will do, Firstgear suit Kilimanjaro, harley boots(yup), but the buffeting. I vent solved the buffeting on my bike. I have madstad and tall yamaha windscreen. My short 3-4hour rides around the vicinity require more effort from me than the FJR did.

For me, harnessing the wind. I have the winglets but the air is either noisey in front or goes over the top and low frequncy(audio) rumble coupled with brain numbing buffeting.
I just dialed my FJR1300 windscreen in last year by adding a laminar lip. If I get the wind tamed, I'm set.
