Rode home from the train commute tonight —not my Tenere today, but my Guzzi. In the 3 short miles before pulling into my garage, this occurred to me:

No more bugs :)
Way more deer :(

Crispy, colorful autumn leaves (glorious).
Wet autumn leaves (perilous).

Still riding...awesome!
Not sure how long I'll still be riding. Not awesome.

Ahhhhctober. Can't sure if you say it with a sigh or a smile.

No sun - no moon!
No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! -
November!

October isn't too bad here in east central Wisconsin, but it's what comes next that really sucks. I am usually able to ride until about mid November. The day I put my bikes away has to be the worst day of the year.
Yes, wet leaves are quite perilous, so is all the mud on the roads from the farmers doing their fall harvesting. It's like grease after a rain or even in the morning with heavy dew.
Don't forget about all the road kills this time of year. Raccoons, skunks, possums, turkeys, deer etc... The numbers go way up in the fall.
Most of the bugs are gone, but there are still plenty around until it freezes hard.
Fall riding can be just gorgeous with the leaves turning, we are at the peak for fall color right now.
Fall is my favorite time of the year around here, but it's way too short and the winters are way too long!
What are the winters like in Texas?

magic,

What you need is that new Yamaha Sidewinder snowmobile to cure your winter blues in Wisconsin. I owned Yamaha sleds for years until 2014 until I got tired of trailering up north. Having that activity to look forward to is a great way to see one's self through to the next motorcycling season.

airmed,

Snowmobiling is a great winter sport, if you have snow. There have been many winters around here recently where the local trails don't even open because of a lack of snow. Sometimes they open, but only for a week or two. There are alot of snowmobile owners from this part of Wisconsin that trailer their sleds to Michigans UP for decent riding. Back when I owned snowmobiles, I spent many weekends trailering to Michigan and back. Otherwise, that Sidewinder looks like a real blast to ride.

October! The beginning of the best riding season here in Florida. ::008::
I do feel for you guys up there in the lands of ice and snow. But then you don't have to suffer through July and August in Florida's heat and humidity. Think sauna bath. . . .

Still have some bugs left in Nebraska! I too took a short ride today (about 175 miles) to enjoy our near-record temps and since I have a little window of opportunity to ride between the cataract surgery of my eyes.

Thanks! I'm adjusting to it. Virtually NO twisty roads like we had in Colorado, but still some interesting rides and sights along the way. I'm really enjoying a much more laid back routine here. Much less traffic than we had along the front range of Colorado.
