Retirement Tenere.

I like it!
And considering the context you termed it as such, you should know it's a proper choice.
You can treat it with retirement concern and care, but you don't have to.

It's as rugged as they come.

Still, I like it. I'm considering retirement. Looks like I already have the bike. :)

Re: Re: ABS bleeding and failures

Always wanted a Beemer. Still think its the sexiest bike in the world, in a ADV sexy point of view.

Had so many bikes in my life I can't explain why only one was ever a Yamaha. (Late 80's YZ250 I raced in an effort to not grow up at 28 years of age)

But when that PDP Tenere offer came up 5 years ago, I went gaga over it. I was gonna get that BEEMER after all! (My opinion, of course. There are many that said I still don't have my Beemer)

By the way, the "retirement" word is in fact on the tip of my tongue. I might have beat you to the Tenere, but you beat me to the better version of it.
I'm hot on your heals though.

What's to consider? Retirement is Fantastic! I don't know how I had time to work! It usually comes down to money. I'm ok... definitely not one of the .01%ers! LMFAO!!!

Don't encourage him!, my kids would shout.
It kind of DOES come down to money. Although I am more than willing to be poor, (American poor) they got all kinds of stupid rules about what they will do to me if I TOUCH my OWN money before I'm a certain age. But it's not as bad as it sounds. The 59 1/2 finish line is in sight!

I've done a few decades of protesting by simply enjoying the ride while I still work. Just to spite them.

Sold my business December 31 2016. The people who purchased it asked me to stay and continue doing what I have been doing which is a problem since I wasn't doing much. Don't know how long it will last. Retirement may be in my future.

Been self employed for 44 years and will probably be here until my final ride. I can put up a closed sign anytime I want and stay gone as long as I want, so totally quitting wouldn't make much sense. I can't sit around the house very long, sometimes get bored on my days off, but I always go to work with a smile on my face, so I'll keep working as long as I can. If I was punching a clock and had a boss pushing me around, I'm sure I wouldn't stay around any longer than I had to.

There is a quote, not sure the origin, but it's something like this; "If you find something you love doing, you'll never work a day in your life".

I'm still looking for that ::010::

Have the Tenere and just retired ::021::. I was not the age I thought I would be when I retired but I am bringing in about the same coin, thank you Lord!. Had to walk away from my position as a STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) teacher before I got canned for insubordination. Many straws on the camel but the straw that buckled the camel's knees was when one of my "administrators" directed me to call parents and tell then to stop helping their children at home with math because the adults were all "doing it wrong". Basic math concepts have not changed for centuries but the way those in charge make teachers present the subject matter sure has.

So far retirement has been great. Planning trips, riding mid-week ::001::, working on my marksmanship, wood working, & driving the Mrs. nuts. She says she's going to keep working so she's not trapped all day with me :D

Hope it remains this good.

Good idea CW. Yes, retirement is great. It's the best job I ever had. I'm going on 3 years now, and can not believe how fast time flies. During the course of my career, I was fortunate to have several pretty good jobs. They don't compare to retirement. Funny thing about being retired, you no longer look forward to the weekends. You actually look forward to Mondays when everyone goes back to work. I usually do my yard work and home projects on the weekends and ride, fish or travel during the week. Good luck to all you guys who are contemplating retiring soon.

Looking forward to retirement in spring or early summer next year - if I don't get fired first!
A fellow who worked with me was six months from retirement when he got in hot water. He was suspended with full pay for nearly two years before it was resolved and he could retire. During my last year I tried to think of a way I could get suspended with pay, but never did come up with a wway to do it.

Hilarious. Now you've gone and done it!

OK, since it is now the official topic of this thread, and NOT a hijack of another thread, it might be a little less fun for me. (I'm likely the King of hijack. Guilty. And this place has put up with it (me) forever)

As for the 59 1/2 finish line looming in the near future, the official date is November 16th. I try to imagine what will REALLY be different when I wake up that morning?

Honestly, probably nothing if you reviewed the video of that day. I'm a fairly boring and predictable chap who embraces the routine.
My ADV mode is actually just me breaking routine! Which explains my adverse reaction of things like "planning" and "schedules" and even GPS routing, when I in fact switch to ADV mode.

Having said that, you can clearly see the role motorcycles play in my psyche. And any motorcycle that I mount that is not taking me to the office, is automatically my most common method for switching to ADV mode. Clearly the 2-wheeled iron horse has long been the escape-trigger for me. :)

Back to November 16th............
I WILL retire that day. But not in the usual sense of the term. What I will retire that day are some of the REASONS I do what I do, rather than the actual tasks themselves.

It'll go something like this: I'll check and see if the CEO is in that day. He is a true friend and someone I have been loyal to for 20 years. If he is and he sees me, he'll welcome me into the office. (He doesn't see me in-the-flesh often. He travels a lot and I work remotely a fair amount of time)

"Whazzup cowboy? Come in here and tell me what's been happening"

"Same ole same ole Roger. You'd know if that weren't true, right?"
(I built his global network about 17 years ago and there are 30+ locations. We are a 24\7 business so if anything "goes down", everyone would know)

"True. I guess I would. Alright, so how's life been treating you then?"

"Well you know me. Not much to complain about. I DO still have the best job in the company"
(This has been an ongoing debate between me and him for a couple of decades. But a few years ago he finally conceded that my job IS better than his. He did so when I pointed out that I don't have to deal with lawyers. He does. I win!)

"Yea, that's true. Stop reminding me"

"Ok. Sorry. But I DO have something you might need to know about. I'm 59 1/2 today"

At that moment, I will witness the gears turning in his brain. But it will ONLY last a second. He is really brilliant. Smart. Fast.

Then with a slightly concerned but not sure of what's coming, he ask...

"yea? ok? so........are you telling me I should sit down?"

I'll laugh that laugh that is intended to erase any kind of impending doom. He'll bite. And he should, because what I'm about to say isn't DOOM. lol

"Naw. Nothing that should freak anybody out. I ain't turning in my resignation. Why would I? I'm not done with sticking it to the man. Are you kidding?"

That'll get a hearty laugh. He LOVES that stuff. He takes it as a compliment, and he should.

"OK. Then spill it. How deep you gonna stick it?"

"Well actually, I'm just here to request.....um....a 50% cut in pay"

That'll throw even the smart guy for a few seconds. He ain't NEVER heard that one before in his entire business life.

See where I'm going with this?
Why actually retire, in the normal sense of the word? I can do what I do from Lake City Colorado. Or the parking lot at Romney West Virginia Yamaha dealer. Or ........
Get my drift?
They've put up with me working "on the road" for a month at a time before.
Why not 3 months? Or .......... ::013::

All I'm saying is that on November the 17th, I ain't going to the office if I don't want to.

I don't actually have a clue what I WILL do on that day. Way too far away. But what really changes is simply "why" I do whatever it is I will do.

I'm pretty sure THAT is what you fellas that are retired are saying is so awesome about it, right? lol

(please forgive me for daydreaming at the keyboard fellas. Life is good. Thanks for indulging me)

I was able to retire last year. I had, what I would say was one of the best jobs (pilot) in one of the more stressful professions (LEO). But with what I saved, and the percentage I had with my pension, I was actually paying to go to work. One of the funnest thing I did the last several months was suggesting to my supervisors that I could do something and not worry, as the investigation would take longer than my retirement date. Man that was fun.

Spent total of 3 months on the road with my bike and trailer last year. Going to try and double that this year.

Good for you Mark!

The network I birthed is for the FBO world. I'm not a pilot, but everything I do supposedly is for the benefit of pilots. :)
And my youngest son recently became a County Sheriff Deputy. (Not sure what that Agricultural Degree was all about? Guess it was just an excuse to play college ball?)

Anyways, can I ask....."bike and trailer" ???

I'm curious because my ADV menu is diversified. Sometimes it starts and ends on a bike. Sometimes it includes hauling the bike and my bed. (camper)
And I'm trying to figure out a good way to haul multiple bikes and a camper.

I'm getting old and wimpy perhaps. Don't need luxury, by any means, but do kinda consider the trusty ole tent as something to avoid when possible.

I retired eight years ago after 25 years as a police officer. Since then I've worked on and off as a private investigator and a security consultant. And you know what? Not working is soooo much better. Every time I run into someone still on the job, or I watch the news, it reinforces that I made the right call to pull the pin when I did. It's unbelievably awesome to have the freedom to decide on the spur of the moment to go on a two week bike trip and not to have to ask for permission, put in for leave, etc.
