Just thought I'd shout out for new S10 owner that is feeling the vibes. Twinrider recently picked up a used S10 and is seeking a remedy. I recommended that he PM a few guys I mentioned to him (Japako comes to the forefront), but I know there are more. Anyhow, I prolly resonate above or below that freq range, because what I felt while my bike had low miles didn't bother me. Seems that the sensitivity varies from rider to rider, so maybe others who've had issues can offer some advice.

Seems to me, correct me if I'm wrong, that just putting some miles on the machine is the most frequent answer. Short-term patches seem to vary quite a bit. Adding an aftermarket exhaust seemed to be make the most noticable change, from what I remember reading.

I found grip buddies work very well. $20 and the issue is resolved. Plus, heat comes through and gives a nice secure feeling.

What vibes are you talking about? I have never experienced/noticed them. My friend is looking at buying an S10 and asked me about it and I didn't know what he was talking about. He said he was told to fasten a cross bar across the handle bars, similar to the bars on the handle bars on BMX bikes, and the vibration will stop.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far. I know the 'vibes' are very real for some, especially during the first 3-5000 miles or so. I remember acknowledging some sort of resonance at lower RPMs during early ownership, but the more miles I logged, the smoother things became. I'm at 16,000KM right now and went for ride today being especially alert for any kind of vibes and there were really none to speak of. All I felt was a cross-plane, thumperesche lumpety, lump pull from about 2 grand that became a smoother more urgent rush of power as the revs increased ::014::

Anyway, hope some of the new owners that are sensitive to, that frequency range, will be able to wait things out long enough for engine to smooth itself out.

Exactly the point. Some feel it; some don't. Maybe it's a bone density issue?! ;) I was never bothered by it, but did note sort of a resonance from about 3500 to 4500 RPM when my S10 still had low miles. This issue almost drove a few people on this forum to the point of selling their bike. Fortunately, they noticed the engine start to get smoother as they put more miles on it.

Break-in the engine thoroughly. They start to disappear after 1K miles. I had them at certain points in the powerband, and they were gone after 1,000 miles. The more miles you put on thge S10, the smoother she gets.

Thanks for starting this thread Tenerator.

As I mentioned to Tenerator, the vibrations begin at about 3500 rpm and continue through the rest of the rev range. I can feel them through the pegs and seat as well, but it's the hands where it's most annoying. Bought used last Thursday with about 2500 miles on it, after this weekend it now has about 4,000 miles on it. Rode about 500 miles yesterday including lane splitting through a highway traffic jam for about 30 miles. Hands feel achy today when I close them, first time for that and I've many similarly long mileage days as well as an ironbutt.

@twinrider,
I answered your PM and I hope it helps. As for your hands feeling achy, some of the things I covered may help. Also the hard deceleration can cause that. The flash will help that also.

If you have big hands, Grip puppies will help with vibes and your hands. I have them on mine and they work. But I do have large hands.

Just thought I would add...

I turned over 2K this weekend on a ride, and have been noticing a significant reduction in vibes over the last 250 miles or so. The bike really seems to be smoothing out across the RPM range. A little over or under the optimal gear/rpm ratio picks up a little more vibe but the sweet spots are smooth as glass. Really loving the break in changes....

You can search my posts about my vibrations (resonance), I have tried most everything and are finally
pleased with the result. I have tried 4 different handlebars included the SW Motech non-shock bars and
ended up with the ProTaper Contours (Raptor bend). Combined with Rox anti-vibration risers and additional
grips -> Slide a pair of ProGrip 714 (throttle side one.. need to buy two pairs as the inner diameter must be large)
over the original grips, then take a ride and identify the spots in you hands where the buzz is still disturbing, cut a
suitable lenght out of a pair of grip-puppies to cover the ev, buzz-spot (could be half the puppies, as for me).

Then work these on over the ProGrip 714.. This works, as i'v done it.. needs some force and sweat to get this
things on, but possible.

Add a crossbar, slight, slight improvment.. Heavier bar-end weights didn't do it for me (using vibranators anyway to increase
handlebar control area space)

Also to get some slightly thicker gloves works to isolate some extra if needed.

I have also made the closed loop fueling area richer by a far amount, this is more costly ofc as it requires a PC with
O2 Optimizer.

More miles also makes a smoother ride as mentioned.

Good Luck!

Once you get over 5k on it, you will see a noticable drop in vibes... I have over 7k on mine now and the only thing I feel is the vibrations from going to a heavier off road tire (Shinko's). Can't imagine what they would be like at 80mph with Hindeaus...

Thanks for all the input. I bumped up the CO to 10 and added TT bar risers to take some weight off my hands. Feels a bit smoother but haven't had a chance to ride it in anger yet, only commuting. Will pile on some more miles and see if it smooths out. Probably will do the ECU reflash this winter.
