Most people who run car tires are very aware of the compromises. Most people who have never run one don't have a clue and just assume that only a fool would go to the dark side.
Don't criticize what you do not understand. Ever hear of a guy who goes by Yellow Wolf? He has been running a car tire on his Goldwing and he will flat out spank 95% of sport bikes on the Dragon with his Goldwing running a car tire.oldbear said:

So what was the stupidest thing you did to your bikes when you where a wild child as a kid inventing sh*t because you could?
Didn't know what the outcome was but you and your friends went out and did it anyway to see if it worked and how to make it better.
This to me is the same idea, look we all lived inventing crazy mods when we where young this sounds like another version of the unknown.
Why not try it I would.
Stay young at heart my friends for one day the eyes will faultier and the bikes will stay parked and cease to make your blood flow with joy.

I run tour groups and also have a Rocket 3 Touring while being on my 3rd S10 since they came out. So have been around the Darkside ::009:: for a longtime so a bit bored with it now
My own experience is basically riders who have it fall into "it handles ok", costs less to run or use the bike in US on long straight roads.
Yes it handles ok and anyone who thinks an under inflated car tyre will corner like a bike tyre either rides it like a Harley or doesn't live near decent roads. The problem is going from one corner to another the tyre is neither shaped nor designed to switch directions needed to keep you ass safely stuck to the ground. I would also question getting enough grip where it's needed especially if you don't live in a warm country as we all don't live in Florida or Nevada ::013:: Your welcome to ride with me around highlands but we'll let you know where the rest stops are so you can catch up ::025::
Too cheap to buy bike tyres is a pet hate as again why the hell would you buy a 13k bike and put square tyres on it. While not all are 13k especially 2 mins after you take delivery but you get where I'm going with it........ buy a trails bike and put a car tyre on it WTF why did you buy it for in first place ::010::

Wow, you sure sound like an authority. But in the words of Jules Winnfield, "allow me to retort"....
Here's a guy on a Goldwing, on the Tail of the Dragon, with a car tire on the rear of his bike. He goes by the name of Yellow Wolf. If you're interested, he has multiple other videos of himself riding the Dragon on a darkside Goldwing, including one of him chasing down a couple of Ducatis. In spite of the many guys on line who feel like they are frustrated bike racing champions who just never caught a break, I'd venture to say that this guy on a 1000 plus pound bike with a "poor handling" car tire could out ride a whole lot of guys on S-10s with P4s.
But, therein lies the trouble with blanket statements...they're so much fun to make, but they're rarely accurate.

The area of contact has been found to typically be roughly proportional to a bike tire when on edge. The handling issue is that to get there takes more effort to deflect the tire off the wider portion of tread, which has nothing to do with car vs m/c tire.
So as far as rain, it more comes to the individual tire's rubber compound and tread sipes (rain grooves).

I just put some BF Goodrich G-Force Comp 2's on my 2003 Miata. After about 7 miles on the tires, I think I am going to like them. They handle well, feel good on wet surfaces and don't seem to be as noisy as my old tires. Happy! ::018::
