There's a box under the rider's seat where I think I will put my comm gear. In this box there's a four-wire accessory plug of some sort. Anyone know what it's intended for? There are also two hooks like something could be strapped there using one of those rubber straps like tool kits are commonly held by. Is there some electrical accessory that is intended to go in this compartment?

My dealer said the four-wire plug is for hooking up a diagnostic tester.

Don't know about the hooks...

For anyone needing more under seat space, there is a formed plastic piece, that I assume is there mostly to protect the ABS unit. This piece can be removed to create more space. Keep in mind that the ABS unit is there and dont put anything against it or the brake lines that could rub or cause any long term damage. I removed this plastic piece to create room for my cruise control servo unit.

I've checked out this space as well, but since it is so hard to get to, it is somewhat limited in use. Even thought about adding a cutout to provide access to the space underneath without removal, but was then concerned that the strength would be compromised.

The piece I removed seperates the ABS unit, serves as somewhat of a guard for the seat latch and covers a couple of wire harnesses. The area underneath does have an odd shape and would be limited in use but could provide space for electronics or other items. I chose this location for my cruise servo to get it away from the motor heat. The 2 other other cruise control installs that I have seen documented placed the servo on top of the transmission beside the starter. I wanted to seperate mine from the heat and vibration. The under seat area was tight but looked like my best option.

Well, I think I will put my Autocom Active-Plus in there, along with my Amplirider and the power filter for them both. The Amplider gives me a remote volume control that I can mount somewhere accessible, and once the rest of the dials are set on the Autocom I don't need to access it again.

I mounted my Amplirider under the strap where the tool kit was and moved the tools to under the seat.
The Amplirider is connected to my Zumo550 and my radar detector which are both mounted on the handlebars.
Running the wiring to connect these devices is easier and a shorter run to the location where the tools originally were.
I bought a mini hedphone extension cord from Radio Shack, plugged it in to the Amplirider and routed it up to the left handlebar just to the right of the handgrip and left about 3" hanging over handlebar facing me. Its easy to plug in my headset or unplug when dismounting the bike. I mounted the remote volume control on the left handlebar switch housing.
I have had several Ampliriders on different bikes, they work great and are relatively inexpensive, about $70 IIRC.

Good luck with the install.
Would like to know where you wire for power. Pictures would be nice.
I have the Autocom AV Pro in the tank bag right now but was considering moving it.

I've got a Fuzeblock that I'm going to put where the tools were. I'll get power from there.

I had my Autocom in a tankbag for a while, because that facilitates moving it from bike to bike. The devices cost an arm and a leg, so buying several was not practical. But all the cabling was just overwhelming. The wires took up more space than the device. When Topgear clearanced them, the devices were cheap, so I got some extras and started permanent-mounting them in my bikes. I really like them this way.

Yes, just tricky to access.

I've been looking at this spot to put a tire repair kit and some better tools to work on the bike. THe tool kit on this bike is a joke, worst one I've ever seen on a bike.

I wrapped my autocom in shipping foam and put it under the seat with both my cable and 2up cable. It requires hardly any power so I wired up the right side of the frame to the auxiliary plug where it ends up in the wiring panel. GPS goes to same place. When we run B2B, I pull out the radio connection and route in front of the seat to rear of tankbag and my Kenwood.

The NT700V didn't even come with any toolkit at all.
