Thanks k woo!

The bike should be able to handle "mule", duties well. I'm figuring the bike is a decent handler in the twistie's, has acceptable torque and can buck Western winds. Gravel and dirt two track isn't a problem. I've been running those for over 35 yrs.

I think the S10 is a good bike for the kind of riding I do. I'm hoping the S10 rides better (when compared to my DL 1000), on rougher stuff.

Having said that, I seriously doubt that the S10 could be competitive with my V Strom on the street. YMMV.
I ride a Vee sometimes, and can assure you the Tenere is it's match on the street

Claim they are going to be in Shawnee Mission Kansas this coming weekend. Not sure if they have more than one demo fleet.

I already have a wedding and a grad party on Saturday the 21st. I am gonna think about burning vacation Friday and running down. Only if I can reserve a ride slot tho. Plan to call em Mon or Tues. Its aboot 8 hours from the Minneapolis area, leave early, hit em in the late afternoon for a ride, haul back, or overnight and haul back early in AM.
Thanks Bigbore4, Now I need to see if I can get Saturday off and run down there.

Thank you for the detailed report, the more info and riding impressions about the ST the better. Because I haven't had the opportunity to test ride the Tenere I have to rely on the eperiences of other riders and since none of the major U.S. cycle magazines have done a shoot-out style test of the Yamaha vs. the GS BMW we can only wait and see.
I have owned several Yamaha's over the years and have nothing but good things to say about them, I'm sure the Ten will be a winner.
I have to agree with you about the KTM Adventure, I owned an '08 model and I currently ride a 990 SuperMoto T ... that engine ... WOW! Can you say hooligan?

Have you done any mods to your V?
I cycle pool to work with a friend that has a stock Vee, we swap bikes sometimes and take the looong way home. Love Vees and Wees, lots of bang for the buck. The S10 handles better than a Wee and will run with a Vee. The Tenere's low center of gravity, balance and torque put it ahead of the DL's.

Cool! Can't wait to ride one. The thing about the V is you have to wring on the rpm's to get it to really go. Does the S10 give you more noticeable torque lower in the rpm range? In other words, if you had to keep each bike turning under 5K rpm's, which one will give you the best acceleration and would it be significantly better or just a little bit better? I can look at dyno charts all day long, but they really don't provide a "seat of the pants", feel. One big variable is the difference in weight between the two bikes, the S10 producing more torque than the V, but is heavier.

Yeah it's got tons( ok, ft/lbs) of torque down low. During my test ride I dumped it into 6th gear at 30 mph and did a full roll on the throttle. The S10 didn't jerk, sputter or fall on it's face. It just had a strong steady pull back up to cruise. I was impressed!!
