Hello Friends. And thank you for all of your collective wisdom. It helped this weekend garage-warrior/wrench-pretender change the oil on his '13 Ténéré.

But not without a little stupidity and minor melodrama. Like: why did only this much oil (quart and a half?) come out of the engine?

Could it be because you, adventurelounger, are a professional idiot?

You can read the wrench-report on my motoblog here: Longitude&Gratitude

Enjoy. Wrench smart and ride safe.

You should have kept reading the internet where you found out about the 2nd drain plug. Would've saved you from adding that extra pint of oil and overfilling.

Also I vote you are banned from posting here due to your blog's graphics and terminology directed at the manly Tenere. I'll apologize to others in advance for not being politically correct, but that is about as gay as it gets. Lol

That's just how my blog siphons a key picture onto the header. I'm gonna have to fix that. I mean, I know I'm a pussy. But yeah maybe that's a bit too much.

But you know, not all of us have the testosterone to be screen-named after a suppository. ;)

If u put in 4 quarts like it says in your blog I'm sorry to say after you ride it a couple times and take another look at the oil window it will show way over full , been there and done that myself, the good thing is it's pretty easy to drain some excess oil out. I've changed oil in all kinds of stuff but the Tenere is a different kind of animal, live and learn. I believe the manual calls for 3.6 quarts of oil when u change the filter.

I didn't quite put 4 quarts in there. More like 3.7-3.8 (estimate based on what's left in the gallon jug. Will check sight glass again now that I've ridden it a bunch of times.

But technically, since it's a dry sump, how can you actually "overfill it" by a couple of ounces? Doesn't the pan/reserve just fit what it can fit, and the only oil that gets up into the engine is what gets pumped up into it?

I suppose if oil is slopping out of the oil filler neck, you've added too much. But high in the sight glass seems just fine, no?

Few ounces no problem but you made it sound like it was 16 ounces or more. Still not really a problem but you'll probably find more oil making its way into your airbox possibly if oil tank max'd out. My guess is your sight glass will be completely filled after a good long ride so no way to guage how much you overfilled.

Also I liked your above reply to me regarding your blog. You are officially pardoned now. Lol

Thought I'd have to read or scroll around before I figures out why the gay comment was made.... Nope, figured it out immediately lol
