I had a similar hit on the S10. I walked into the local dealer here in David, (dah-veed) Chiriqui, Panama and was armed with printed photos from a recent article by Basem Wasef, of "About.co" and State side prices on the package deals. I presented same to the salesman, Jaime, (Jim) and I got the proverbial hand signal to "wait here a moment", then walked off to what seemed like the only land line in the place. A few minuted later he returned and said, "Regresso in dos dia's" and walked away. I was use to that kind of communication here, so I figured it was a bust.
Two days later I get a call from Jaime to return to Yamaha. As I walked in expecting to speak to someone in English, Jaime met me at the door with a big friendly smile and with all the fan-fair of a gracious host, stepped aside, and there she was! Boy! What a beauty! All silver with plastic still in the seat. After drooling and leaving finger prints all over every thing, I realized I was being watched by the entire Yamaha staff, including the mechanics from the shop. Not wanting to be the center of their attention. I remembered in the article, Wasef stating the trouble he had getting the BIG S10 up on the center stand. So, being use to getting my Yamaha Venture up on center, I prepared my self for a Herculean task. Well, the whole place went "wooha!!" and every one began talking at once. The sales mgr came up to me and said, in perfect English, "we thought it would be difficult too, that's why it was still on the side stand". Then he went on to say that "I had both the wheels off the floor at the same time, WOW!" So mush for the only concern I had about the big bike.
I'm waiting to negotiate with the big boys in Panama City on final price and accessories, and I'll probably sell my 2000 Buell X1 Lightning Millennium, my cherry 1984 Yamaha Venture and my 1989 Honda Transalp. Never thought I'd get rid of that one as she has been so faithful all these years. GP
