TCS, to prevent a harsh fall or to enhance performance? (both?)

For the most part we see people mentioning the fact that TCS saved them from doing something stupid. Perhaps to much throttle in a corner.

But what about performance? I only ask because of an acticle I had read a while back on the Corvettes ability to let traction control launch the car better than the drivers could with it off. They were impressed.
I am guessing the Tenere cant do this on pavement, but maybe gravel. Three Teneres beside each other on loose gravel, TCS off, TCS 1, TCS 2, from zero to hero. (oh and i would think TCS can add a little milage to your tire.)

Anyway, just a little bored waiting for my Tenere tomorrow. tick tock

I am very impressed with TCS on gravel. On my old DL1000 if I nailed the throttle on a gravel road I mainly spun the rear tire until it eventually accelerated. With TCS nail the throttle and the bike just goes faster with little or no wasted time spinning. Spinning is fun, but if you want to accelerate quickly you can't beat TCS.

TC1 in gravel is for riding with your buddies, and not spraying them with rocks. TC2 is for riding in gravel and letting the rear hang out, anyone behind you, beware.

Same here.
As I have mentioned before, I have a long dirt/gravel drive to get to the house. About 800'.
Although my KTM 950SM is faster than my S10 in almost every facet measurable on 2 wheels (and 1 ::) ), it's just simply can't keep up on the gravel. It is directly attributed to the efficiency of traction control to getting the power transferred to forward motion.

And by the way, the ABS also stops that 600lb beast faster than I can shut that KTM with monobloc Brembos down on dirt.

On dry pavement? No contest.

Throw in some rain though, and I now have far more trust in the S10 with K60's than I do with the KTM on Scorpions.
I'm now a believer.

Supposedly. And take this with a HUGE grain (mountain?) of salt...the traction control supposedly isn't for use like professional road racers use theirs. IE, if you grab a whole bunch of throttle in a corner, it can still kick you in the butt and high side you. Now, what I've noticed in sport mode, TC1, is that I can grab as much throttle as I want and the bike retains grip through the corner.

Supposedly.

P.S. I 've seen a gain of .0000000003 additional miles of tread life with traction control on.

I never run tc1 on gravel, if you hit some uphill washboard it will almost stop moving.
I agree.

After forgetting that it resets itself after turning off the bike, I tackled a rather steep rocky incline last fall and never made it to the top. I remember wondering why I was slowing down, and then saw the yellow light on the dash. D'oh. ::010::

Keep your speed up, and it works great, creeping along probably not.
