Taking over a PDP

I hesitated at the last minute and didn't put a deposit down back in March. Since then I have taken over the PDP for another person. The salesman told the original purchaser that there wouldn't be any issues transferring but the warranty might have to start out in his name. Anybody know why that would be the case?

Another question I have is I am buying this bike out of state so should I finance it locally or does anyone know if Yamaha is still running financing on this?

I would like to know about the warranty, as well. My dealer told me the same that it would be originally in his name and they would transfer it.

That just does not sound right, but who knows.. Do you both have the same dealer?

The warranty is registered to the person writing the check,at least all the deals i ever did were. This is done at time of sale by the finance person,it should not make any difference who"s name is on the pdp. There may some details im not aware of,hope not.Good luck

We've had a couple discussions about this. My take is that ownership paperwork can be in any name - who made the PDP is immaterial. But since warranty paperwork is between the dealer and Yamaha, it may be that Yamaha stipulates the the warranty must start in the PDP name - this may be another line of defense they set up to avoid speculating on PDP slots.

In any event, since Yamaha's warranty is completely transferable, I don't think it matters much.

I was also told that the warranty could not be transferred to my name until after six months due to the way the PDP works. I'm fine with it as the dealer was 100% up front about it.

I guess what I don't understand is how can "John Doe" have a warranty on a bike that is owned by "Roger Smith"? I don't really care about the warranty as long as the title is in my name.

I took over a PDP and the dealer informed me of the same, warranty would be transferred to my name after 6 months, everything else is in my name at the time of sale.

I don't understand the details. I can say this particular dealer plays it really straight, which is why I'm using them.

Because the bike is under warranty, not the rider. The warranty agreement between the customer and Yamaha says that Yamaha will fix the bike regardless of how the owner is. I think the only reason the bike is registered with a name to Yamaha is as a paperwork convenience and as a requirement that Yamaha attempt to track ownership so they can get a hold of the owner in the event of a recall.

What "extras" come as part of PDP vs a standard sale? I've read on here that in Canada they include a two extra years added to the warranty, a free oil change kit, and a $250 discount if you buy $1500 in accessories or add-ons. Is this also true in for the USA?

Has anyone heard of any dealers who offer discounts on PDP orders that were cancelled and there is no new buyer?

I'm not aware of any of these promotions on US bikes. Canadian warranties are often longer on bigger bikes by policy of the importer. The rest sound more like individual dealer promotions rather than general Yamaha Canada promotions, or PDP promotions, but I really don't know.
