G'day everyone, I hope you're going well.
I'm looking at adding some panniers to my bike and the SW Motech Trax Ion or ADV aluminium ones look quite good.
Currently the Adventure cases are $780 locally (or a 'B grade' one for $449) and the ION are on sale from the same shop for $389 (down from $566). All of these prices are in AUD.
I have an ADV top box and it is very impressive in it's build quality and ease of use.
Apart from the price difference, and potential 'non matching' cases, can anyone offer an opinion on either one as to the difference in build quality, strength, ease of use etc as the advertised specs on them seem very similar.
Thanks for looking,
Steve

Those prices sound good but I’m not much help with anything else. Sorry.
All I could add is: How much punishment do you plan to inflict on them and have a look as to how you’d pack them… would you use inner bags out use them like a boot suitcase in a car?

Thanks Matt,
Hopefully I won't inflict any punishment on them, but hey, anything can happen. I would probably use inner bags to make it easier to get stuff in and out and leave the panniers in place.

i have inner bags for my givi panniers when away, its so much easier to lift the lid and pull a bag out with handles on and leave panniers on the bike

I use GIVI panniers, Im very pleased with the quality and attention to detail, they have accessories available, like gas tanks, water bottles to be carried on special brackets, matching sets of keys, nets for the lids inside, liners for all of the sizes. Prices are much better that SW Motech .......I have used www.totostorm.it twice, and they carry almost everything from GIVI, plus lots of other stuff, great service, prices and ultra FAST delivery from Italy.

GIVI is what the new/current OE Yamaha boxes are. There's a video series, Himalaya Calling, that used SW Motec. IIRC there were some weld issues on the panier frames, but they were put through more abuse than the average rider will do in a lifetime.

I have the SW Trax Adventure pans and racks, and they are an excellent choice. Solid build, and very secure mounting/locking system.

Hiya, did you buy the SW Motech panniers? I’ve bought their gear off Motorrad Garage for a previous bike and their customer service is the best. I bought a set of pro racks to use with soft panniers then bought some adapters from them to fit some second hand Hepco and Becker Junior cases. I also bought a rear rack that had a fault. I sent them photos and they had a replacement sent to me the next day.

I have the Pro side carriers and a set of Andy Strapz soft panniers for now but I'm still leaning towards the hard panniers, I'm waiting until my tax return arrives ;). I agree with the excellent customer service from Moorrad Garage, top notch and super efficient.

I have the SW Motech city WP (waterproof) tank bag which is well built and well tested for waterproofing as I live on the Texas gulf coast. Have Moskomoto Ballard's 35l soft panniers so can't say much about the SW Motech panniers, or hard panniers for that matter. Just buy what suits you, don't look back, and enjoy.

I have had several brands of boxes, and SW-Motech is as good if not better than any. I currently have GIVI on my ST, and they are ok, but not as good a quality as the SW. Happy Trails also makes a great box.
