Good review.. One thing, how wide is the peg and how long, compared to stock? I did not see that at TT..

I got them on my bike; Length is the same as stock and they are real solid and strong.

I was riding on mud and gravel a few weeks ago and the width came in very useful.

Ah good question - I'll have the answer tomorrow.

I have had these installed for about 500 miles of riding. I mounted them in the lowered position. The rubber pad is pretty thick and hard, so some of the lower height is lost due to the thickness of the pad. They are definitely wider than stock and I am pretty sure longer too. The rubber pad is harder than stock and does not compress like the stocker does. The theory behind the stock pad is that if you are seated, you have less weight on your boot, so your boot rests on the rubber, so you get less vibration and less wear on your boot sole from the metal peg serrations. But, if you stand on the pegs, the rubber compresses and your boot comes in contact with the metal serrations for better grip offroad. The SW Moto peg does not do that. The rubber pad is harder and has a steel plate in the middle that rests on the metal peg and prevents it from compressing. To get good boot grip offroad, you must remove the rubber pad entirely. I like the wider, longer peg and I think it is stornger than the stock one, but I wish the rubber compressed like the stock peg.

Trevor - looking at your post about the guys who found the stock pegs easy to break...

I had a friend who rode a 1000cc Concours. The bike was too tall for her to manage easily, and she dropped it on a number of occasions. She kept breaking its footpegs. I remember discussion of the Kawasaki pot-metal footpegs, and whether it would be a good idea to get a stronger one. In the end, we decide it wasn't a good idea, because if the footpeg didn't snap, where would that stress go next? Would something more expensive and difficult to replace, snap instead?

The new SW-Motech peg looks like the weak point is the bolt holding the peg to the carrier. Not saying they're weaker than stock, or stronger - I have no way to tell. But it just seems to me that if they're going to snap, that's where they'd do it. In fact if I broke one, that's where I'd like them to break, because it would be the easiest to fix on the road. I might intentionally choose bolts that are weaker than the other parts just for this reason. Then carry extra bolts in case I broke one. Do you think this was SW-Motech's thinking? What kind of steel are those bolts, and do you think they would snap before something else?

The SW-MOTECH design appears to be engineered to be much stronger than the stock pegs.

The MOTECH pegs fit into a reinforced sleeve that is bolted to the frame peg attachment. It could still snap but would require a lot of force. The standard peg attachment is a steel pin through two mounting holes....more prone to snapping, at least to my uneducated eyes. The earlier question of force being transferred sompelace else is one I can't answer.

Yeah I was looking at that this morning. I guess it would go to the pivot pin, then the steel footpeg mount, then the frame. It would be good if the SW-Motech was designed to snap the bolt where the peg mounts to the pivot, but we don't know that. Might run that question by Twisted Throttle...

Still, it's one thing to have the peg snap when the bike goes down (as with the Concours) but completely another to have it snap when you take a hard hit while standing on the pegs (as might happen bombing down a dirt road on the Super Tenere). The first case is the result of an accident, the second might be the CAUSE...

Here's the comparison of length and width. Pivot points are approximately in line.

I like the looks of the pegs as well, but wonder if they are higher than the stock pegs? With the stock pegs, I feel the rear brake pedal is a tad too high to begin with for applying the brake.

I noticed that too but adjusted it out with the stock adjuster.
