Hi all, sorry I'm so lax in keeping up with the ride report. Just thought I'd post this one separately until I catch up with the rest of it in "Escape from DC".

Quick summary - beautiful ride down through Ecuador/Peru to Bolivia, awesome landscapes and great people. Not a moment trouble with anyone, police and army included. Met a bunch of cool travellers, cyclists and moto riders. Bike has been almost faultless, just oil changes and tires. 38,000 miles/61000 km in just over 13 months.

A few more days in Bolivia, then to get some good wine in Argentina!

This would have been better if my chair hadn't blown away, and I hadn't had to stick my head out of the tent to make sure the camera hadn't blown away as well! Needless to say, camping on the salt was awesome.

Nice job with the exposure on the time-lapse. Looks like you had it set manually? and nailed it. Cool vid and shots!

Awesome shots - Thanks!

Did you at least have a margarita glass to use some salt on?

Thanks guys. This was my first ever sunrise time lapse, and I knew exposure was going to be tricky. You can let the camera auto-expose, but that just looks very messy with different exposures shot to shot. So has to be manual exposure to keep it consistent. Of course that's a problems when going from full dark to bright sunlight... I just had to take a wild guess at a median exposure that I thought would not stay too dark for too long, or get too bright too quickly. I chose 1/25, F7.1 at ISO 100. Of course it gets way too bright at the end but I think is works in this case, but only because of the way the sky and the salt merge into pure white, leaving only the Tenere and the tent standing (oh, and my effing roaming camp chair!)

Camera is a Nikon D7000, which lets you do interval shooting up to 999 frames. This was 999 at 5 second intervals, so this whole scene took 83 minutes.

If anyone has any tips on how to improve, happy to hear them!

Thanks Paul, good to hear from you. Yeah you'd think with all the shit I'm carrying, I'd be prepared for anything. But stupidly, no lime and tequila. Would have been really nice watching the sunset with drink in hand...

One more pic

Sweet! Or should I say: "Salty"! How fast did you get it going on the flats?

About 90mph - without even trying. With no points of reference it's easy to be going a lot faster than you think...
