by deleting my post, that becomes a political rant of the moderator kind.... nothing about my post was a political rant , political but not a rant. the whole point of the topic thread is about how high the fees ( which is a tax ) are to keep your super tenere legal . when some one says ( California is well rounded , that is a political statement in and of itself, certainly that persons opinion ) and i'll use California as the example as that is the topic of this thread , it is an out of control unconstitutional socialist leaning state..... that is the truth , all of America knows this, California is proud of it . so the censor (moderator ) strikes , even brags about its easier to delete than to ( I'm going to say allow a conversation to start on the subject of fees and taxation related to registration of our machines ) modify the members post , no names have been called , no one is fighting , so where is the problem . so by stating my opinion on the subject of fees ( which is a tax ) or the reason why (in my opinion ), the censor strikes. I pay 68.00 a year to register my Yamaha super tenere , and 7.00 to have it inspected ..... and that's to high.... I have a political bent this is true , I am a working person with a job , I see and feel the effects of taxation in my life . it is my money I worked for it . the government requires some of my money to do certain things , this I understand , glad to help.... but, government is about government and will crush the people it says its working for every chance it gets. unless we keep it in check, its still our government ( of the people , by the people , for the people ) for awhile anyway. I am not trying to offend , I've always liked a spirited debate, never been afraid of some ones opinion, shocked maybe, but not afraid.... so in my opinion we have a thread here were you can cry about your fees(taxes ) but can not discuss the reason for their existence.... I have been a member of this forum awhile , love it , most of the members I have met have been great guys , find that to be cool. a little more about me , I am sadly an elected official , I serve my city as a council person , on my second term .... I believe in term limits more than ever after being on the council , after time elected people seem to forget who they serve, the office ( any office is seductive ) changes you.... our founders never thought this government would be full of professional politicians . and that's the problem .. keep on crying guys or change the way you vote.

As an open post to Madhatter,

We've already had people pinging us mods to nuke this recent post of yours.

The post I deleted was less of an argument, it was rather a short indictment of California and the people who live there. The people. It was also a righteous condemnation post. As I've written many times around here, arguing and debating are one thing, especially here in the Lounge. Attack the argument because attacking folks as individuals or collectively crosses the line. We have folks here of both extremes and the whole spectrum in between and this forum has been a place we all escape to and hang regardless of orientation. We have members from fully communist and socialist countries to countries more democratic than the 20th ranked United States and every one has a job and an opinion. I really appreciated what SilverBullet wrote and that he "got it."

Your current post is more of an argument and that's why it's still here. I'm ignoring your comments about me and hope others just let your post fade into the background. But if others want to chime in, again, remember where the line is. If this just becomes a right wing/left wing thread of rants, we'll nuke the whole thing.

AvGeek and I actually do have lives and sometimes we may overly cut something. My apology to Silverbullet for nuking his entire response rather than trimming it. While we try to let the whole spectrum have it's say and the reminder may be a disappointment, a ground rule in this and nearly all forums is that mods get final say.

Ughh, “Cali” when did people start calling California that!?

LOL - We used to call it that when I lived in LA in the 70s and 80s so I put "Cali girls" into Youtube thinking it would popup an old song but this came up.

Perhaps this thread went off in a different direction, maybe, to get things back on track, we could post what you have to pay per vehicle (remember, you have a choice to limit the amount they take from you, cut your herd), where you are based and other levies. This may help those that feel hard done by, but would also help to perhaps further the info on what people pay to enjoy their vehicle. I am one of those that have to pay a full year's insurance, road tax, highway tax, registration fee and may only ride 2000 miles in one year. That for me works out to be about $1 per mile, not including depreciation, fuel or service costs....... But I get to ride on some of the best maintained roads in Europe, and enjoy great scenery.
Man, that's an expensive hobby, may have to rethink it.................... ::010::

I had a Danish forum member as a house guest not too long ago and he was talking about how much they pay. OUCH! The bike alone (Gen2 non-ES) cost him something like $38,000 and the annual fees were also staggering.

I've heard that said about divorces too. :)
Keep in mind, I was quoting someone else when I said “California is worth every penny.” I love the state, not as fond of the state’s government right now though, if one can separate the two.

The Danish goverment very recently reduced the taxes on cars and motorcycle...
So now a new S10 is just below 29000 $. and about 60% of this amount is taxes. (I bought my new bike in this spring, and paid about 31.500$
Then comes about 130 $ for the numberplate (only one time)
Then we have a tax that is depending on the fuelconsumption and weight af vehicle, for a motorcycle it is 108$ every year.

And that is about that...

Then of course there is a lot af tax on the gasoline, we pay about 1,5$ for 1L (5.92$ for a gallon). I don't remember how much is tax..
And insurance which is very different, depending on where you live, how many miles a years, if you want to get cover on your own bike if you are blamed for the accident, and so on. I pay 550$ a year, and is covered if I'm to blame for the accident, and included roadside assistance if I have a flat tire, or run out af gasoline, or of course have an accident.

(The exchange rated used is 6.38 DKR for 1$.)

I don't think I've ever posted a political opinion post on this forum. But since I have such an embarrassing post-count, I could be wrong. (I feel for anyone motivated to actually research it. How daunting)
Regardless, it doesn't sound like me because I don't care. Really, I don't.

But I do have rathers. Wishes. I can dream.

I wish there was a get-out-of-jail-free zone on these kinds of things. A place where a fella could have a few too many drinks and then vent freely without it mattering one iota. Nobody would be offended, and nobody needed to moderate. Because everyone understood it just doesn't matter.

I miss the sticks & stones days. I miss John Wayne & Steve McQueen. Lol

There are SO many rules now.

I mean no offense to any PERSON, of course. My complaint is with the modern version of our species.
But even saying that, I think we are still the most entertaining. Just not as funny or fun as we once were.

Lol. So true.
In 8th grade I sung a solo part in "Don't Fence Me In"
(scary memory)
What we eventually turn into starts early? The school choir director probably had no intention or idea she was forming me into a non conformist. :)

Speaking from living further south, the same as you, but cost's way more! I should as a disclaimer add that wages are higher, but they still manage to take it all away from you ::010::

Well, actually we get a lot, and I don't complain. Below some fact, also no complain only fact :)
The following examples is based upon that we also delivery about 55% of our labor pay to the goverment. And there is 25% taxes on everything in ALL store, included the one where we buy food.
So Demnark is an expensive country to live in, but we also get paid a lot for work, and also if no work.. (it can pay off to work :) )
We have a minimum pay pr. hour at about 20$ for all above 18 years.
A fiktive exabple: if you get 3200$ a mounth from your employer, and live in own house, you will get about 1500$ in your paycheck. Then you have to pay the 25% tax on all you buy, food, gasoline, medicine, clothes, everything.

If we need hospital (or local doctor), we just get it, no further paying.

We don't pay for ANY education (when kid and getting first education). The first 9 years in public school is free of any charge.
when going to upper secondary school (in Danish Gymnasium), we only have to pay for needed books, but then student can get money from goverment, even when living at home, and more money if living alone.
In Copenhagen it is a bit difficult to get the money from goverment to be enough for both books, food and place to live, because of prices for rented rooms in Copenhagen. But if they stay home at their parrents, no problem.
The same when going in university.
So if the students is taking care of the money, and not party too much, there is no extra paying needed to get a Ph.D

If someone loose their job, and don't find a new, they will get money from goverment, not possible to keep their S10, own house, and maybe also not their car. But we will have wall and roof, to keep rain and snow out, and never go to bed hungry.

If we get a sickness that will keep us from working, we will get paid from goverment the rest of our lives (if the sicknes will be accepted by goverment as chronic sickness)

We have public library where we can borrow any book for free.

Every month we have possibility to get big garbage things removed from our home. (TV, refrigerators, stove, and so on) goverment just come with the lorry, and pick it up....(not all area off Denmark)

When we get old, and not able to care of our self, there is special home for this. Where we will be taken care off. (not always in the best way, but still...)

We have at least 5 weeks of paid vaccation. Either from goverment if no work, or from employer if in work.

Our working week is 37 hours.

And many other "small" benefits. And also some paying, the example with garbage, we pay for in the area where we live, about 200$ a year.

You forgot the most important reason for this forum. I will quote Dogdaze as he already stated it a few posts ago.

Dogdaze said:

Not sure if applicable to Denmark but I have friends in Belgium and they get two one year long paid "career breaks" in their lifetime. Imagine a one year paid work sabbatical prior to your retirement. Nice! then do it twice, nicer!

But the grass is always greener on the other side....until you get there, then many often find it not to their liking. If you've only lived in one city, one state, one country, one continent, one culture, etc. all your life you are really clueless to what's out there and what could really be the best for you. Travel, live, experience, make decisions (right, wrong, indifferent) and then rinse and repeat until you find your true honey hole.

If you think your life is happy enough and you're content to play it safe and stay where you are that is fine and honestly probably the right choice for many. But if that is the case for you, accept it and enjoy it unfetered. No need to talk bad about others for which you don't know or understand. Respect others always...a nonsecular golden rule is all we need which crosses all religions and non religion.

That seems like a very fair rate for a motorcycle. I agree about your roads. Many of us down here consider Arkansas to be a motorcyclists Disneyland, both for street bikes and dual sports.

Actually, what drives me crazy are the utility trailers and vehicles that relatives are driving that I'm title holder. 5 trailers. I use 1 of them primarily. It's just my fave. But each trailer fits specific jobs and folks are always borrowing. So I keep them up to date. If they'd just let me register everything at the same time! However, I've been doing business in the same dmv office for 20 years. I know the ladies. And some of them have been there a long time and know my whole life, from a dmv viewpoint.
I feel your pain with the trailers. What it costs to register mine which gets almost no use is ridiculous. My MC trailer is just a light duty 3500lb GVWR trailer that will cause no damage to the road and will seldom even be on them. You may be able to register all of yours at the same time. A few years ago, I had my cars all put together here in Tarrant county. We paid a prorated amount on some of them to bring them all to the same date.

As far as Multiple Bike Syndrome and registration goes, I see two sides to it. We that have MBS are certainly fortunate folks. On the other hand, if registration and vehicle taxes are supposed to be paying for the maintenance and upkeep of the roads, we can only ride one at a time and these are light weight vehicles that are doing no damage or wear to them. Being punitive on the registration costs seems to be simply wrong.

Philosophically in general, I consider myself to be extraordinarily fortunate to be able to participate in this sport and forum at all. We all tend to see those that have more than us, but few of us notice those that have less. From my perspective, any of us that are riding a Tenere' and participating here are doing OK.

If this is a comment to me, I really don't understand ???
I actually wrote that I am not complaining. And I have for sure not talked bad about any one.

(I actuallt know, that the roads in Switzerland is better than the ones in Denmark.)

If you are imployed in the goverment, you can take a long leave, but will not get payed. In the private area, you also can take leave witout pay, but you can't be sure that your have a job afterwards...

No not a comment for you at all and nothing to do with what you posted.

It was a comment in general for those that wanted to hijack this thread and spin it into a "me vs them", "right vs wrong" issue.
