What a classy ol' girl that one is! A paddle wheeled single lane ferry with wood decks. Wow. A lot more pictures of that boat would be cool. Did she have a name? Maybe Google has a listing.

According to the article in my local paper, it is the last stern paddle wheel ferry in the USA. Runs only in summer, Susquehanna is a nasty river with ice chunks.

They have two of them, a spare paddle wheeler in case the primary dies. Diesel-hydraulic drive to a big jackshaft in multiple pillow blocks.then a big sloppy greased chain to the paddle. I didn't notice any names, but I'm sure they are named.

I live about twenty miles north of the east dock, and pass both ends frequently, but had never taken it before. Today's travels were originally just goingto be to a M/C shop to see about new rubber in the near future: the OEM tires are getting tired. I had spoken to Venture, he and his buddy, who were heading home from a trip, and was thinking about my destination and this ferry. After the trip to the shop, I decided to see if the ferry was running, and headed down to find the west bank dock. Imagine my surprise when they showed up while I was waiting for it to come back across. Beautiful day, great ride, neat diversion.

After we got to shore, Venture & co headed off home, and I headed north to my home. Had to pass the obligatory open pipe Harleys several times on the way home, but otherwise, great ride, great day.

Lots of fools can show you that. This is a rarity.
I've already done peg plus deep, lacks the fun-enough-to-repeat factor.

In reference to the previous remarks: I had guessed the "submarine Tenere" thing would be the first thought, but figured lots of guys have the ability to go and try that on their own, almost anywhere except the Atacama. While the ferry is available to all in season, some of you would need to ride a ways. I've almost done the submarine thing myself, not one of my brighter moments. Losing control of a 575 pound motorcycle in a mud hole isn't really a good idea. I didn't lose control, but now avoid that sort of sloppy goop; that's what the WR250R is for. What can I say? I'm a goon and admit it.

It seems the power portions do have names: The Roaring Bull V and Falcon III. The barge like contraption that the vehicles ride upon seems to be nameless.

My buddy and I both had Scala Q2 headsets and as I we were pulling up to the boat launch I said, and I quote, "Holy shit, it's [yamaguy55]!" It's rather amazing that we met up EXACTLY at the right time given that we had no agenda and weren't even sure when we talked with you that we were going to end up there. Plus, we missed the turn off 11/15 to get to the ferry, but felt it was worth doing enough to spin it around at the next jughandle. If it wasn't for that we'd of probably arrived at the exact same moment.

I took a few pictures of my own, but given that we were all standing in the same 10x10 area they look mightily close to yours, so I won't bother posting them. :D

I need to start a list of recommended things to do in each state by area or something. Too many cool little things to do that I imagine most miss out on unless they get a good tip from somebody.

It was a very pleasant surprise when they rolled up.
