Dog gone it Jaime!

Just when I was making progress on convincing people here that the S10 is a street bike, you had to go and do that. ::005::

Now I have to start all over. :'(

Ok everyone repeat after me:

The S10 is not a off road bike, The S10 is not a off road bike, The S10 is not a off road bike, The S10 is not a off road bike.

I don't think they are listening. ::010::
You will have a hard work.

I hope soon I'm going to have a 21" front wheel.... you will see: hundreds of videos!!! ::025::

Cool, I've found the ST has a lot of the "road hugging weight" or in this parlance "trail bashing weight" get it aimed in the right direction and have a decent amount of momentum and it will get over some impressive stuff. Get it wrong, though and your effed. A DRZ400s I used to have exhibited this compared to a Husky TE250 and to my current trail/enduro bike, a 2005 CR250R 2 stroke motocross bike. Once it gets going though a technical section, the heavier bike just keeps going and doesn't get deflected much by things in the way compared to a lighter bike.
I’m doing enduro with a DRZ-E with some guys with modern and lighter bikes and I have the same feeling, when I ride after them I see their bikes like if they are out of control, jumping from one side to another while the heavy DRZ looks much more stable doesn’t move, could be the weight, the suspensions… don’t know.
But for sure in off road the traction is more important than the power this is why the heavy ST with its amazing TC is so good in it.

The ST has this trait in spades. Be glad you had the other people with you, picking up the ST on a steep section on the rocks or roots in a trail section and getting going again by yourself is a complete bitch. …….
Agree, I wouldn’t do that by myself but with 3 colleagues I felt secure.

….. I am with Pete a bit, the ST is certainly no dirt bike. Skill and balls can get it to lot of places, but for me, it's just not near as much fun doing it as with a real enduro or trials bike……………
I must recognise that even if I am not looking for this difficult places, It makes me really “alive” (don’t know with word to use in English) when I reach the top.
Off course with an enduro bike this could be easier but I was there and I had two possibilities: turn back (I hate that and we came from a non easy downhill) or try it. Also I know my colleagues and turn round must have some embarrassing comments… :mad: :D

What I’m loving in this bike is its versatility. In the same day we have a relax ride in easy dirt roads enjoying the scenery, we have a sport ride, we weren’t blocked for this difficult section and in the end of the day I did nearly 300km in highway to go home, my colleagues with the other bikes where really tired in the road while I was enjoying the ride. With the DRZ I could do the same but not so fun. ::003::

Yep, I'd be a little intimidated taking my KTM 450 up that little climb. ;)
I wouldn't dream of trying it on my Tenere. ???
Besides, I don't want to scratch the Tenere. Maybe I should just go out in the garage and kick it over, just to get it over with. It's always liberating after you get that first scratch.

Jaime the 21" front wheel transforms this bike into another dimension. I just finished the eastern TAT in torrential rains. Mississippi was a mud pie and the 21 tracked straight as an arrow through the crap. TC1 kept the rear under control. I was a shappy with the big girl as a pig in mud! Awesome skills my friend. ::012:: ::012:: ::012:: ::012:: ::012::

::026:: Awesome JaimeV. I am normally a wuss in the offroad stuff but freely admit I've now ridden worse tracks on my S10 than my WR450 :D BUT, i've only done it when I've had "relief" right at hand. Good riding buddies are good for something more than just harassing you when you want to turn around ::021::

Unfortunately I can’t afford one of this incredible wheels Woody does. I've found a cheap option here in Barcelona (hope I won’t regret). They are doing the black anodized now and in a couple of weeks I'm going to do the rest of modifications.
What you did with the front guard, side and centre stands and brake hoses?
Was it difficult to adapt?

Cheers ::003::

I mounted a KTM supermoto fender on a homemade bracket that bolts into the lower triple tree bracket, I copied Wasps design, not as elegant but it works. The brake line I got from EricV here on the forum for $110USD,nice hoses. Istill havent done anything with the stands, I carry a small piece of 1" wood for the side stand aand center stands. Look forward to seeing your mod. The surprising thing about the 21" wheel was on road, way more responsive, the front end feels much lighter going into turns. It seems the bike was made for this size wheel. Saving my $$$$ to do the rear 18" before I ship this beast to Africa next year.
