Sun and rain visor/shield

Always used my mobile phone as a satnav on the bike with good results from a combination of Google maps navigation and Copilot. The achilles heel has always been the waterproofimg of the phone and to some degree the glare from the sun washing out the screen... I don't particularly like fully waterproof cases as then tend to be a bit on the too large side but worse still, degrade the call quality by covering the speakers, etc. I considered a Ram mount Aqua box, but at nearly £70 and not helping with sun glare plus other drawbacks from past experience, I thought after a search of the net for something ready made and coming up short, I'd bodge something up as a visor come shield to enable me to use a less 'full on' case for my Galaxy Note 3 out in any weather. Not tried it out in yet but rains possibly due at the weekend when I'll be going bike camping, so I might get me chance then to see if it helps Any... I shaped the visor box from a small plastic storage box and bolted it between the uprights of a Touratech adjustable mount. No big engineering feat here of course, but hopefully a useful little mod for me and I think it looks reasonably 'off the shelf too' :)

Looks good. Keep a close eye on that first wet ride, as the rain actually comes UP from the area of the forks.
I can also say first-hand that rain will quickly kill a USB charger in the cig socket.

That looks really snazzy.
Cheers. In the flesh it certainly doesn't look 'wrong' if your using the Touratech mount that I am...

Will do... though I always thought it was just rain droplets from around the cockpit area that blew back onto the phone screen from wind/turbulence? I've already cut out the bottom area of the box so the whole thing didn't look too huge, but could easy glue or velcro a sheet of plastic to the lower side to stop water from the fork area you mention. Need to see it in action to see what's really going on I guess... I don't imagine this box will be a cure, for all weather probs, more of an aid... Regarding usb power, mine comes from under the battery panel. Happily never lost a 'hidden' usb yet to water ingress... :) Cheers.

Now then Mr DIY ! ::025:: I can only think you've been inspired to make something from our recent bike meets. It looks quite the job. This week should give you some varied weather to try it out.

Great Scott! IT'S BRILLIANT!
If you do try this, start with the smallest slit and place in boiling water first, to sterilize of course ::025::, then place over plugs, they really stretch......

Agree with Helios - The bottle nipples are a brilliant idea.

before phones and gps were available in waterproof formats, and depending on size we use to use condoms for emergency cover. It didn't make using the phone any safer though.
NB. make sure you dry the condom out first.
