Changing the oil, pretty sure I kept the two oil drain bolts in the right order but just want to verify that the longer of the two goes in the forward drain hole. Thanks for the clarification. ::008::

There is a longer one? Lol, never noticed! 21,000 miles and still going. I guess it does not matter!

Yeah, I noticed they are the same part number too. Double-checked and they indeed are the same length. Good reminder not to mess with bike stuff before my first cup of coffee. :D

Thanks for the help. ::008::

Definitely woke me up before the first cup of coffee! I didn't think there was a difference but you had me doubting for a bit. :))

Not sure of the answer but there is no such thing as a stupid question except the one you did not ask
This rule does not apply to internet forums. People with big egos berate folks for asking questions all the time. It's worse on some forums than on others but there are always some that will give a smart A reply to a simple question. This is a simple question, simple answer. Thanks, now we can all ::021::

There are two or three people on this forum that immediately come to mind.

Naturally , I was just changing my oil last evening, so I had really started to worry. I never noticed a difference. It took fredz43 to make me relax a bit.

I'm guilty of immediately thinking up some wisecrack. It's in my DNA.
(I was a tortured child)

Most times I can stop myself from putting my thoughts to typed words.
But just most times. :)

Soaking in kerosene will help 'em thread back in after. ;)

You think the reason all those BMW final drives blow up is because they are using kerosene to flush 'em? Or would they blow up less of 'em if they did flush 'em with kerosene? ::025::

And would it have to be Genuine Factory BMW Approved Kerosene to keep from voiding the warranty? ::024::

Btw, I pulled the drain plugs the night before just after getting back from a long ride. When I pulled off the filter in the morning, no oil spillage from it at all. ::008::

Does anyone really go 12,000 miles between oil filter changes like the service manual recommends? I thought 6,000 miles was long enough (actually 5K in my case) and changed it at the same time I changed the oil.

I may, or may not have, rotated mine. Freaked out, just a tid-bit when I read the original post. Had never noticed a difference, and there's no telling which bolt is in which hole at this point...

Glad to read there's no difference... :)

You rotate the drain bolts front to back, or just out and then back in again... or are you rotating between kerosene and oil? ::26::

Just make sure you clean the drain bolts with kerosene before reinstalling...
