You probably could, but there might be a lot of oil flinging around in there. Could get messy ???hojo in sc said:Question: Is it possible to take off the cover and look at the cam chain with the engine running to see what the chain is doing, like is there a guideline on how much slack or lack of?
I think that's typical of any extended warranty. They're not in the towing business specifically, but re-imburse to a specific dollar amount. Hope everything works out for you.432Hz said:called ama to get the tow to davis. waiting for their call back.
called yamaha yes prior to that, apparently they do not do towing, they just reimburse for towing up to 60 dollars or something like that.
any idea of the frequency of that grinding noise. Was it 432 Hz ;D just joking . good luck getting it resolved432Hz said:Well, never thought it would happen, but i did today. Out of nowhere grinding noise from cam chain area. Sounds like a cam chain. Noise increases, speeds up with rpm. Sounds like something rattling inside. I just had valve check done by Action Yamaha in Metuchen, NJ. Stay away from them pending the outcome of this. This may be coincidental, but nonetheless. I have 29K miles now, 2013 is model year. Should I attempt the ride back to NY or find a good local dealer, how funny is that, god local dealer? This could take at least a week. I do have YES warranty, for what its worth. Any reputable places within 100-200 miles of ouray?
That's a first. :question:432Hz said:It sounded like 25000 gigahertz ;D
AMA covered the tow. 2 great fellas came from Merwin's towing with some funny stories to tell on the way.
Guys at Davis took her apart. Awesome crew I must say and really helpful so far ::008::
The issue involves neither tensioner nor the chain and has nothing to do with valve adjustment that was done. At least does not appear to be so. Just a sad coincidence. So the guys at Action Yamaha, NJ are in the clear in my book. They called me a few times to follow up on me as well.
The issue is much worse actually:
Broken clutch spring
eating through the engine case
This is a very peculiar failure, especially since I treat this and my other bikes royally. Perhaps just a faulty spring that finally gave in. She has been doing great so far. The Yamaha is covering the repair. The repair involves a new engine case and clutch basket. Guys at Davis will basically have to take the components out of the current case and assemble it in the new case. Apparently Yamaha does not ship engine assembly unless it's something really really bad. I guess this is not so critical then 8)
I'll be here through the end of next week probably fri-sat patrolling on a 650 grasshopper that Davis had for rent.
So Ramseybella and anyone else coming through here, obey posted speed limits ::001:: ::019::
Good thought but don't think he'll get the new basket by next week. Someone ordered them all. 8)Big Blu said:An updated clutch basket and updated CCT ........ make it happen, even if it cost you a few out of pocket $$. ::008::
