::026:: Even though the stocker is bearable I'm just wondering if the Spencer mod might make it "comfy". Anyone out ther got theirs back? Review please!stevepsd said:Anyone get their Spencer modded seat back yet? Looking for reviews.

Looking forward to your thoughts as well.toompine said:Mine is on the way back, should be here tomorrow. I am 180# with a short inseam (30") I had only minor gripes about the center of the seat but I found the seat shape caused a hot point along the top edges at the front under my thighs. Had more to do with shape and my short arms forcing me to move forward. I have put on bar risers and pullbacks 1"/1" and a set of lower bars to compensate for the rise. Hopefully that gets me sitting a bit more in the center of the seat. This is a low cost attempt to make a pretty good seat better. I do not like the big Day Long tractor seat shape. Additionally most replacements are $400 and up so at $100 for the rider and pasenger seat this was worth a try. A friend on a Tiger swears by the Spencer mod so I was ready to try it. Will post no later than the end of the week. Maybe two posts, a quick what do I think initially and a longer post after I ride it this weekend
Sounds good, if you dont mind what was the damage for the seat mod?....DOH, I think you mentioned $100 for both seats correct?toompine said:Got my seat yesterday via UPS and took it home to put on the bike. Installed it and......hummm, not a noticable difference. Not sure what I should feel. Not softer/plusher than stock, not stiffer. In all honesty the stock seat feels pretty good just sitting on it so this is really not a suprise. Same exact shape.
The email from Spencer said "Break in miles are important but relatively quick, usually no more than a few tanks of gas for everything to start to relax and begin forming to your shape. Thanks again and ride safe, Spencer" So I guess that means in order to see how much the seat customizes to my shape I wil need to put some miles on it. So all of you waiting on a report will need to wait until after then weekend because this is going to take some miles to give everybody a fair evaluation. On the flip side Spencer did everthing he promised in exactly the time he promised so I am pleased with that.
That is what I liked about doing his mod on my DL1000. Did not change the look of the stock seat. It did make the seat better. Looking forward to hearing your experience. I've been emailing back and forth with Spencer this evening. He said mine will be completed tomorrow. I won't get a chance to try it until the 19th.toompine said:Got my seat yesterday via UPS and took it home to put on the bike. Installed it and......hummm, not a noticable difference. Standard seat cost for a solo seat is $50. The Long Distance (LD) upgrade with Supacor is another $25. Based on the seat pan Spencer pertty much insisted on the Supacor upgrade. The passenger seat was $25. Total of $100 for everything I had donebonzer2u said:Sounds good, if you dont mind what was the damage for the seat mod?....DOH, I think you mentioned $100 for both seats correct?
::026::N I ride in a 1 piece Teiz suit normally with blue jeans underneath and I also find the seat more comfortable nekid(naked for you folks north of the Mason/Dixon ). I've tried sheepskins and pads, and nothing beats the stocker bare.Checkswrecks said:For the last trip I tried using an Aerostitch seat pad outbound and nothing on the return leg, wearing bluejeans under an Aerostitch. I found that I prefered the bare seat.
fwiw, 6 ft, 32" inseam, & 200 lbs.
Thanks DD, as i said before the stock seat is almost there for me. Look forward to hearing your continuing evaluation. I currently can sit on the stocker with only minor discomfort. The Spencer may just be the ticket to push it over the top.Dirt_Dad said:Had a chance to do 6 hours on my Spencer modified seat yesterday. I did add my Alaska Leather sheepskin cover, which eliminated the issue with the no stick seat cover. No question the modified seat is a significant improvement over stock. First 3 hours were more comfortable and I was starting to think all my seating issues were solved. After lunch at around the 4.5 hour mark I started feeling it again. An hour later seat comfort was the only thing on my mind. Still not as bad as stock, but not perfect either.
For now I am going to continue breaking-in the seat and trying get used to it. With less than 300 miles I am not ready to pass final judgement on it. Spencer did say to give it a few tanks of gas and I need to do at least a couple hundred more miles. I'm hopeful that between this mod, my sheepskin and maybe my beaded seat cover I'll find a combination that gives all day comfort.
