Anyone get their Spencer modded seat back yet? Looking for reviews.
::026:: Even though the stocker is bearable I'm just wondering if the Spencer mod might make it "comfy". Anyone out ther got theirs back? Review please!

Mine is on the way back, should be here tomorrow. I am 180# with a short inseam (30") I had only minor gripes about the center of the seat but I found the seat shape caused a hot point along the top edges at the front under my thighs. Had more to do with shape and my short arms forcing me to move forward. I have put on bar risers and pullbacks 1"/1" and a set of lower bars to compensate for the rise. Hopefully that gets me sitting a bit more in the center of the seat. This is a low cost attempt to make a pretty good seat better. I do not like the big Day Long tractor seat shape. Additionally most replacements are $400 and up so at $100 for the rider and pasenger seat this was worth a try. A friend on a Tiger swears by the Spencer mod so I was ready to try it. Will post no later than the end of the week. Maybe two posts, a quick what do I think initially and a longer post after I ride it this weekend

Looking forward to hearing what you think. Please post some pics too. Spencer did one of my Strom seats and it was much better. Are you staying with the stock cover?

Got my seat yesterday via UPS and took it home to put on the bike. Installed it and......hummm, not a noticable difference. Not sure what I should feel. Not softer/plusher than stock, not stiffer. In all honesty the stock seat feels pretty good just sitting on it so this is really not a suprise. Same exact shape.

The email from Spencer said "Break in miles are important but relatively quick, usually no more than a few tanks of gas for everything to start to relax and begin forming to your shape. Thanks again and ride safe, Spencer" So I guess that means in order to see how much the seat customizes to my shape I wil need to put some miles on it. So all of you waiting on a report will need to wait until after then weekend because this is going to take some miles to give everybody a fair evaluation. On the flip side Spencer did everthing he promised in exactly the time he promised so I am pleased with that.

Sounds good, if you dont mind what was the damage for the seat mod?....DOH, I think you mentioned $100 for both seats correct?

I've got a little over 4k on the bike and I think this is the most comfortable stock seat I've ever had. What I really need is some highway pegs of some sort so I can stretch my legs out from time to time when doing long hauls. Its the knees...not the arse thats the problem. No matter what bike or seat I'm on, if doing big miles I've gotta shift around a bit to stay comfortable. On my KTM (which I sold for this bike) The Airhawk made all the difference and that was a super uncomfortable crowned narrow seat. Haven't even thought about using it on the XTZ

That is what I liked about doing his mod on my DL1000. Did not change the look of the stock seat. It did make the seat better. Looking forward to hearing your experience. I've been emailing back and forth with Spencer this evening. He said mine will be completed tomorrow. I won't get a chance to try it until the 19th.

Standard seat cost for a solo seat is $50. The Long Distance (LD) upgrade with Supacor is another $25. Based on the seat pan Spencer pertty much insisted on the Supacor upgrade. The passenger seat was $25. Total of $100 for everything I had done

Really looking forward to the reviews of this seat mod. I like how it kept the seat looking stock.

Ok Ride report - Short ride this morning; three hours, no stops, some slab, some twisties and some goat trails. Seat was painless. At a bit of a loss to describe the absence of feeling. No hot spots, no need to keep shifting weight around to stay comfrorable, just very neutral. The center stock "hump" seems to be gone, feel more like sitting in the seat rather than on the top. Not squishy or soft, just kinds of "gives" when weight is applied. Definately not firm like my Sargent seat was but not soft like memory foam kind of soft.

Spencer said a few tanks of gas to break in the seat. I think I can predict where this will be in a couple of tanks and it is good. ::012:: So with todays short ride I am very happy with the seat feel and the price. ::008:: I spent a lot of money on my Sargeant seat for my Multistrada and I was not as happy with that as I am with this mod.

Good feedback on the spencerized seat! I guess the only negative (at least for me) would be still having the OEM cover.

Unfortunately my review will not be as helpful. I was surprised to see the Spencer modded seat back at my house Saturday morning. I only sent it on Monday. Very fast turn around, I don't think he had it for even 24 hours before he had it done and on the way back home.

Comparing it to the rear seat (which I did not have modded) the front is now springier. Push a single finger into the seat and it is easier to press the gel pad, than the rear seat. It does feel like you are pressing on gel. Initially I felt my seat with the smaller bumpers (ala Speedstar mod) felt a tiny bit leaned backwards. So I immediately returned home and put back in the original Yamaha seat spacers. I was hoping that breaking in the seat with the original spacers may make everything the correct angle now. After about 60 miles that thought was out. The forward lean really was still just a bit much and I stopped to put the lower spacers back on. I was tired of being stuck to the seat, so I also put on the sheepskin and rode another 20 miles.

I don't know if it was due to fighting the forward lean, or the unfamiliar feel of the non-stick seat, or even the fact I wasn't wearing my usual Under Armor, but things were not feeling as ideal as I had hoped. Definitely an improvement over stock, but not ready to declare victory just yet. One last stop at home to put a single washer between the shorter bumper and the seat. Hum, that might be better. I don't know. Bottom line, I tried too many unfamiliar configurations today to have a useful impression of the seat. I had less than 3 hours available to ride. I'm going to leave in the washers and weather permitting next weekend go for a nice all day ride. I'll report back after that.

As expected, the stock seat look is retained. The dark spots are just shadows.

I've got 7,500+ miles with the Speedstar mod and while not crazy about the matrrial, I really like the stock seat.

For the last trip I tried using an Aerostitch seat pad outbound and nothing on the return leg, wearing bluejeans under an Aerostitch. I found that I prefered the bare seat.

fwiw, 6 ft, 32" inseam, & 200 lbs.

::026::N I ride in a 1 piece Teiz suit normally with blue jeans underneath and I also find the seat more comfortable nekid(naked for you folks north of the Mason/Dixon :)). I've tried sheepskins and pads, and nothing beats the stocker bare.

I'm 215 and 5'8", with a 30" inseam.

I cannot sit on the seat for longer than an hour or two; I had a sheep and an Airhawk, which made it ok, but with a 30" inseam, adding more height was only temporary.

I got a Corbin earlier in the week, and do owe a review on a separate post...but, so far, after 700 miles and 16 hours, I'm not impressed. I've had Corbin's that were like thrones, instantly comfortable ride all day, every day kind of seats....and this past weekend was ok, but I'm still feeling a little soreness, sitting in a desk chair...not painful, just a reminder I rode 16 hours this weekend. Haven't yet called Corbin back...I do have lower footing in comparison to the stock seat so maybe Corbin chose to reduce the amount of fill.

I find that with any stock seat you just need to ride until your arse & legs go numb then its a non-issue.......... ::015::

Had a chance to do 6 hours on my Spencer modified seat yesterday. I did add my Alaska Leather sheepskin cover, which eliminated the issue with the no stick seat cover. No question the modified seat is a significant improvement over stock. First 3 hours were more comfortable and I was starting to think all my seating issues were solved. After lunch at around the 4.5 hour mark I started feeling it again. An hour later seat comfort was the only thing on my mind. Still not as bad as stock, but not perfect either.

For now I am going to continue breaking-in the seat and trying get used to it. With less than 300 miles I am not ready to pass final judgement on it. Spencer did say to give it a few tanks of gas and I need to do at least a couple hundred more miles. I'm hopeful that between this mod, my sheepskin and maybe my beaded seat cover I'll find a combination that gives all day comfort.

Thanks DD, as i said before the stock seat is almost there for me. Look forward to hearing your continuing evaluation. I currently can sit on the stocker with only minor discomfort. The Spencer may just be the ticket to push it over the top.

I put another 250 miles on mine on Sunday and I am quite happy. Certainly an improvement and a bargin price to boot. The center is dead comfortable, no pressure points. Outside of a total seat replacement with a very expensive seat this is quite nice. I only see it getting better and better each ride. Happy to recommend it over the stock seat.
