It is the damn-est thing I had it locked in before
then I tried it in the low position didn't like it so I switched things around back to High and now the latch will not lock to the tab.
I never liked locking seats from the day I started riding Enduros and road bikes..
I checked everything nothing loose nothing broken or bent lock turns latch moves and yes fitted the rear tab into the correct position as well as the plastic adjustment rack. ::010::

You're not the first...

This is one of those frustrating things that can drive ya' nuts. Where one time the thing just snaps in with little or no effort, and the next time no amount of cussing or jiggling will get the job done. With latching the S-10's seat it's not art, and it's not science, either. You just kind of get used to it, and develop the knack.

My stock seats are pretty easy to go on, and so was the Sargent (now sold and gone). Likewise the Seat Concepts re-built one I now have on-hand is fairly slick, but the Cee Baileys re-build seat can be a real and true booger-bear to get on a lot of the time. Both these re-builds are on stock seat pans. But all that said every one of them can sometimes just *not* want to latch.

The thing that has worked for me is just to slow down and go easy. It also seems to help if I hold "up" at the back of the seat, sort of like pushing lightly "up" and "back", as I push down at the front. It is also critical that the seat be aligned left-to-right as there is a rectangular spigot that has to fit down in a matching hole in the seat-height adjustment frame. I think you will also find the actual latching mechanism that the seat latch tongue slides down into to lock is slightly further aft than you might think as first.

It's just best to remember not to get flustered and try and force it. Go slow and gentle and it will just pop down into place - every time - once you get the hang of it.

Good luck! ::008::

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the SC's comfort and how it stacks up against the CB seat. ::008::

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that fights with the seat from time-to-time... Thought I was gonna have to sprinkle Holy Water or start rolling chicken bones in the garage a couple of times to get the damn thing to latch, then suddenly, "Click" - everything falls into place.

I need to do a seat comparison/review post one of these days, as well as a windshield one... I've certainly tried enough of both! ::025::

I will say this - IMHO the "hard foam option" Seat Concepts seat I recently got from another member here is vastly superior to the Sargent V2 it replaced. I did over 400 miles on it yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the Seat Concepts saddle was, especially for what the retail price of one is compared to other offerings in marketplace.

That said, I'm not ready to say it's *better* than the Cee Baileys modded saddle (my favorite so far up to this point in time). They both have their pros and cons. One thing to note, at least with this "hard foam option" Seat Concepts one I've got... It sits much higher than the stock saddle (or the Cee Baileys or Sargent). Mounted in the *low* position the Seat Concepts produces a seat height virtually the same as a stock saddle on the *high* mount position on my bike. Would be great for taller riders.

More later as I get some more *test* miles on the Seat Concepts saddle. I want to give it a fair shake since I have something like 15,000 to 20,000 miles of riding on the Cee Baileys. Just as a point of reference, the Sargent V2 simply did *NOT* work for me at all. So much so I don't think I put in more than 500 or so with it. Much worse than even the stock seat IMHO, and that was a surprise to me as I have had Sargent saddles on several bikes in the past, and I loved every one of them. First time they disappointed me.

It's really not that hard... Just remember:

Just like Creggur and I said. ;)

Then again, maybe you could try using kerosene... ::017::

Which covering is on your Seat Concepts saddle, Dallara? Was just browsing their site and just wondering what the gripper material is like if you have it...

This is what the material on the one I have looks like... In fact, the seat in these pictures looks exactly like the one I have:

I wouldn't call it a "gripper" material at all, and I imagine it is simply their standard "Embossed Top with Plain Vinyl sides" offering.

Now, to make sure we stay on topic... ;)

Stock Seat won't lock into latch!!

Thanks, Dallara - I was just wondering because one of the things I really like about the stock seat(latches) is that I don't slide around much. I had the Sargent Carbon FX on my VFR seat(latches) which was very slick, and that worked great as I was sliding around and hanging off the seat(latches) quite often. I actually enjoy the planted feeling I get from the stock Tenere seat(latches) material - as I don't spend much time hanging off the seat(latches) on this bike...

And if I need to hang off the seat(latches) on the Tenere, I simply lift up a little bit and plant myself in the proper position on the seat(latches) for the given situation...

;) :)

Thanks for the feedback. The SC sounds promising except for the height for short folks like me. I usually use the high position but offroad I like to switch to the low position so I can get more than my tiptoes down when necessary...

Having had problems with the seat from day 2, I noticed that I had afixed the passenger seat in front of the riders seat. The same problem is prone to happen with the two drain plug bolts are mixed up. These problems are easily fixed if each of the components are flushed with a kerosene/ fully synthetic 10/30 oil mix at a rate of 2 parts kerosene to 1 part fully synthetic oil and assembled with a light coating of bull$ hit. At the same time a filter change is recommended although not essential. Hope this helps :D :D

If your using Amsoil you will not need any Kerosene. Just a little Amsoil fixes anything.

Howdy,
The last time I had the problem of getting the seat to latch I discovered that the little tongue on the seat that slides into it's notch on the frame was getting tangled up with the seat height "spacer". It would slide over the spacer instead of under raising the height on the front of the seat enough to make getting the latch to snap a bear.
Later,
Norm

Pure genius! This answers every question ever asked about the Tenere. Who knew it all came down to a bit of kerosene... Genius, I tell ya!

Will probably address the hard-start problem as well... Who knew???

But what oil should you use in the seat foam? Air filter oil or motor oil? Castor bean oil or whale oil? Animal, vegetable, mineral, or synthetic? ???

Come on, Dallara, everybody knows you only use synthetic castor oil for seat foam...that's just a silly question...
