Stock screen vs. the Yamaha tall screen with the seat adjustment

I spent some of the 600 mile break-in time the other day trying the stock screen, the Yamaha optional high screen, and adjustable seat in all their combinations of adjustable positions. None of them were particularly good from a noise/buffeting perspective. The least objectionable for me was the tall screen in its lowest position with the seat in the high position. It looks to me that the stock screen was designed partially just for the styling to make the front of the bike look like the tenere mask logo and the tall screen was designed more for functionality.

As a side note, I saw that the wings and the tall screen are both made in the US and are also made by National Cycle.

I can't do the stock screen. Had to pull over and take my ear plugs out as it was drumming my ears at speed pretty badly. I just fitted the tall screen and am going to try this while I await an adjustable mount for the windscreen.

I've got the tall screen in the low position with the wind deflectors and my cockpit is fairly quiet and buffeting not bad. I've got the seat in high position as well. One guy was telling me at D & H that he used the wind deflectors with the stock screen and it worked well for him.

I use the stock screen in the high position with the wings installed. Seat in low position. No buffeting, but I get some nice clean air.

I'm 5'9 with a 32 inch in seam. I also have the tall screen and I'll use it for when the temps drop.

I just asked this in another post but are you having any issues with the stock screen in the high mounting holes? I ask because the manual stated not to do this?

Tall screen in the upper position and seat in the low position and I'm a couple of inch's too tall to pe in the pocket. The wind hits the top of my helmet. Acceptable. BTW I also have the side deflectors.

I'm 6' with a 32" inseam and I run the seat in the high position and the stock screen in the lowest position. I like a little wind and wear ear plugs and am fine with it like this.

I just saw this question to me, sorry.
The manual says not to raise the screen in the high mounting holes? Hmmm. I'm not sure why. Does the manual offer any reason for that? ???

I also have the tall screen and wind deflectors with the seat in low position. I stand 5' 9" and find that works out very well. Plenty of wind protection no significant buffeting.

I think it's safety related. The stock low screen has a lip on it and in the up position it would be in the field of view for shorter riders.

I have the wings on order, and plan to move the screen up. I am 5'10" and I think it should put the top of the screen right about upper lip level.

I still look over it even in the high position.

Hi Terryth. I have tride the standard en touring screens with no joy. I have a Touratech screen adjuster installed with a MRA Vario screen - Very happy with this combination and even at 180km/h there's no buffeting. I can realy recomend this combination. BTW i'm 1.88m tall. Settings - screen in the highest position and most up-right = even my pillion is happy

Buffel, have you got any photos mate?

I'm thinking of trying the MRA screen with my TT adjuster. Not sure sure whether to the go for the standard MRA touring screen or the MRA X-screen - which is even taller.

The manual doesn't explain why, only that the tall screen uses the upper holes. I noticed that if you mount the stock screen in the upper holes, there is a gap at the bottom between the shield and dash. Maybe if too much air is allowed to enter under there it could cause the shield to want to lift off? Having that seperate at 70-80mph might be tragic

Changed to a CalSci screen early on with a TT screen adjuster (adds a bit of beefiness as well as adjustability). Solved the windblast and helmet shake. Wouldn't consider the OEM Taller Screen because it is not that much taller than the stock so as to fix the wind blast problem. Very happy withwith the CalSci product and service and they're in California. Check out their sizing chart and pick up the phone with any questions. With this set up no wind issues. Will add the winglets at some point but no real hurry given how this set-up solved the issue. I'm 5'11" or so. Good luck finding your right combination of screen and positioning :lamp:.

Seeing your height and not knowing your inseam did you get a medium? What is your inseam? Did the screen alone do the job or did you have to raise the HB adjuster?
