Stiff Throttle after Heated Grips Installed

So after 8 months with Fall on the way I had my local dealer install the Yamaha heated grips. They seem to heat up properly, and the throttle opens and closes without any abruptness....BUT it seems signifigantly stiffer to twist the throttle ??? What gives? Did they not lubricate it enough? Has anyone else experienced this and do you have any advice? Much thanks, I'm perplexed. It's really bumming me out because I just got new Conti Trail Attack 2 tires installed which are fantastic and I can't enjoy them because of the stupid stiff throttle thing. What's the deal?

Understandable ... so did they fit the internal heater cables correctly and did they even lubricate the assembly ::024::

It's a quick check to do by just removing the two housing bolts for inspection ;)

You might have to loosen up the throttle cable adjuster a bot. If it's too tight, the cables will bind. Slide the vinyl adjuster cover back (on the cable) and thread the adjuster together a turn or so, and give it a try.

Super T,
I live in BKHN. also. Are you the blue one with neon jacket I see about 7 am on some weekdays? I am the black one in red stitch. I am not familar with the heated grips but do all my own work. Give me a shout if all else fails. Mabie I can help. Or we could go for a ride sometime. I am on the forum most days. Andy-WV

There is a problem with their installation. The throttle should work perfectly with the Yamaha heated grips, just like before you had them work on it. Probably has to do with the routing of the wire inside the new throttle housing - it can be confusing to figure out. You better fix it soon, or the binding might fray or break the wires inside that housing. Get the instructions and figure it out yourself. Probably take less time than going back to the dealer. Good luck.

I installed mine last fall and throttle movement is the same as it was before the install. Check the cable routing.

Tenerator12 saved the day!! It was a simple and cheap fix. I simply had to insert a couple spring washers (found the right size in my bucket o' bolts in the garage) between the bar end weight and the end of the handlebar. Installation of the heated grips had pushed the throttle against the bar end weight creating friction. It works as it did when new. ::001::
