I've used them on all my bikes without issue.

things to check:

1: electrical
2: The compressor should not fail this early
3. It's possible the trumpet is clogged

AS far as splitting them. There's a bit of glue that holds the plastic trumpet to the metal compressor body.
I mounted my compressor in the electrical compartment where my POS OEM tools were, and ran a hose to the trumpet:http://thetenerist.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/img_7852.jpg
and on the FZ something not quite as tasty looking but again same idea. If for some reason the compressor works (puts out pressure) the issue is with the trumpet
you can see the trumpet just below the alternator case; http://thetenerist.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/img_8012.jpg

These are pretty decent, and loud as sin. Check it again before you bin it. good luck
Problem sorted. It was electrical, not on the horn, but the Yamaha wiring harness from somewhere under the fuel tank that was broken. Don't understand how this happened because there is no evidence of being pinched. Removed the rubber skin and twisted the wire. Horn loud as ever. Is it best to solder rather than twist?

Stebel not working again properly. Sometimes only a weak sound is emitted, sometimes it works properly.

Stebels have horrible reliability.
It's one reason I installed a horn from a junked Caddy in this bike and from a truck in the last bike. Besides, junkyard horns are $3 and you can usually get the harness and relay with it.

I don't want to keep fixing the Stebel. I am going for another horn. Any one know this one? PIAA 85114 Slim Line 400Hz + 500Hz 112db Sports Horn Kit
I have one. It is an excellent horn. Not quite as loud as the Stebel, but it is "plug and play" and is very reliable.

I have this exact horn on my Vmax. I also installed it with a relay like you have. It is really loud, though not as loud as one with a compressor.

I've run Stebel's for many years on several bikes and my truck with no issues.

The compressor must be mounted vertically or near vertical or it will not function.

Posting a pic of your installation might help.

Here's my install thread...

Installed exactly as yours except the location is different.

I could hear it sucking air, but no sound. So pulled it apart cleaned, put some silicone oil in the ducts, left it to for two days, reconnected and keep on the horn button intermitently. I could see some black stuff blown out. About this time I added silicone glue to seal any leaks. Works like new.

Limey, could you please tell us how you cleaned and greaseed the bearing of the Nautilius Horn? My motor is a seled unit.

I used to be a fan of these horns but the quality control on them seems to have plummeted. I gave up on them when the last two I bought were DOA. I've had better luck lately with cheapo Wolo Bad Boys

Buy a Wolo "Bad Boy" at Harbor Freight (or Amazon) for half the price and throw that other POS away.
::008:: I've had 5 of those things on multiple bikes. Never had a failure yet!
Even separated a few of them in remote locations, as on the S10.

Did anyone else notice the revival of a 2.5 year old thread?

BTW, I've had excellent quality from the Denali SoundBlaster variety sold by Twisted Throttle. Spendy, but well made, and I've got them on three different cycles. two of those are dual sport which routinely see off-road use. Goood quality horn units. There's a Super Tenere specific mounting bracket available from them, too. Works with my Give upper protection, but I do not (yet) use lower protection bars.

The problem was a bent hose that goes from the compressor to the horn. ::002::
Working as new again. Installed in my third Supertenere.

Ditto on the Denali Soundbomb. I have this installed, using the Tenere-specific bracket and the plug-n-play wiring harness. Easy install. Painfully loud.
