Hi,

Having had the Super Ten for a few days now it is my opinion that the only weak point of this bike is the standard screen and the severe buffeting that it cause's above 40mph.

It's like a constant bombardment on your head and has soon given me a headache and next ache just above the shoulders.

To counteract this I have ordered a Touratech windscreen adjuster and two different screen from Calsci, one touring and one shorty, I really hope that I can eliminate this problem as I couldn't live with it.

Anyway what are your thoughts, experiances and opinion's on the subject?

:)

I'm not getting much in the way of buffeting. I sit just below the turbulence. I rode it back from Cambridge at 85 plus and all was OK.

I think you're on the right track, hopefully between the adjuster and the additional wind screens you will find a setup that eliminates the problem. I know a lot of folks who own Tigers complain of buffeting issues as well. It seems to be a common problem with half-faired bikes with small windscreens. Trial and error is the only real way to solve it since rider height and size is a variable.

I've experienced buffeting on nearly every windscreen equipped bike. I was pretty certain it would occur on this bike also, so I went ahead and ordered the windscreen adjuster from Wasp. I'm confident that I will be able to address any buffeting issues with this device.

I found the buffeting with the stock screen quite rough and quickly upgraded to the OEM touring screen which I have mounted in the "recommended" position. This is quite a lot better, not perfect, but acceptable in my opinion. Good enough where I don't feel the need to get an adjustor any time soon. I am also 5'10" without the lid.

Good to know it's helped, what sort of % difference do you thinks it's made? Just trying to gauge what I should expect.

Have you thought of the OEM plastic air wings(for lack of the right term). :) They may help?

Yeah I thought about them but after trying to see what peoples thoughts were I didn't really turn anything up, so I kinda left them for the time being, if the new screen and adjuster don't work this could be the next step. Money money money! ???

It's tricky to be sure about what will or will not work because there are so many variables, and there's the rider's subjective perception of the airflow to take into account too. Even riders of the same height can "sit up" differently on a bike depending on whether their height's in their torso or legs. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the peak of the X3 has something to do with the turbulence, so try a ride wearing another helmet if you can.

I don't find the airflow with the standard screen to be especially bad, or especially good, but I have fitted the Touratech adjuster (I chose it because it accepts my existing TT GPS mount too) and I also have the Yamaha "touring" screen and the side deflectors fitted currently. I haven't reached a firm conclusion yet on the best combination of screen/ adjuster position (too many variables again?!) but I've managed to quieten down the higher speed airflow a fair bit. I'm in two minds about the deflectors: mainly I think they improve airflow over the nose of the bike, but it's also a bit more sensitive to crosswinds with them fitted.

Some good points there. I have my old Shoei Raid helmet so I'll give that a try and also I could remove the peak from the Tour X3, it makes sense with all the variables, I seeing some major trial and error work to get this one sorted out. Cheers for the advice Rocca ;)

Looking forward to your reports on the Calsci screens. Mainly if they cut the buffeting without using a screen adjuster bracket as I don't plan to get one of those. My plan is to order one of those as soon as I give the stock screen a try, just to be sure it's necessary for me to replace that one. I'm thinking of the Calsci screen that is one size larger than the stock screen. Then, getting the Calsi shorty or cutting the stock screen down to a shorty for day to day riding and those off-road trips.

At 5'7" I never found the screen all that bad to begin with. I've fitted the Waspworks adjuster and it is definately smoother now. If I had to I could have lived with the standard setup anyway, there was no serious buffetting at all.

Took the bike in for it's first service today and i had a Yamaha XJ6 Diversion (2011) as a loaner. The XJ has a tiny screen, some way away from the rider. There was next to no wind noise and no buffeting. I did get plastered by bugs though, something that does not happen with the ten. I should add that i run a Shoei helmet. Much better than my old Arai, for me any way.

I'm 6.1 and I have the calci large screen. It's better then the stock it did reduce the buffeting for me. I have been thinking about getting the adjuster and the wind deflectors to make it perfect.
One thing I notice with calci is that over 180kmh speeds the bike is not very stable..anyone experience that? Also does wind deflectors work?
