Does anyone have a wheel stand for your tenere? I am looking at taking off the front tire and was wondering what everyone uses to hold the bike when the shell is off. I was thinking a stand like you see people using to prop up the rear wheel of sport bikes.

A friend of mine showed me a trick he does on bikes with a center stand for taking off the front wheel. He screws in two anchors at the bottom of a wall in his shop. Puts a block against the wall and backs the bike up to it enough to put it on the center stand with the block against the back wheel , keeping the fender off the wall. Using tie-downs pulling the rear of the bike down thus lifting the front tire.

Works great! ::008::

Combo thanks for the tip. I will have to remember that. Problem is this time I am going to take off both the front and rear! I would do them one at a time but I don't want to make 2 trips to Woodys in Denver.

Hey,

Don't see your location, but if you can, check out the lift I'm using for the Super. http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442936321&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672077&bmUID=1327376098221

I have the AltRider bash plate installed and the lift works perfect. ::015::

Thats a problem unless you have a motorcycle lift so you can tie-down the front and rear while using a jack with a block of wood under the motor.
I saw a cheap lift stand I think in northern tool a while back that may work, but I don't think I would trust it to hold for very long or without tie-off supports with both wheels off.

I didn't see DuMar's post before I posted.

I like the stand. Looks strong and holds 1500 lbs. Much better than the one I was talking about.

Pit Bull can set you up with front and rear stands for your Tenere. Give them a call. http://www.pit-bull.com/.

The centerstand/jack combo works fine. Once you remove the rear wheel, you'll have plenty of clearance to remove the front wheel. No need to shim the centerstand with a piece of wood (which is a bit of a risk on a $14K bike, IMO)

Bought a nice Craftsman aluminum motorcycle jack from Sears several years back. It has removable extensions that add another 3" to the jack height. Raising mechanism mechanically locks at intervals rather than depending on the hydraulics for safety. Very nice for the task you are planning. Put the bike on the center stand, remove the rear wheel, cantilever the front wheel off the ground with the jack and you'er good to go.

This is a repeat from somewhere I've posted.

Made one of these.....

http://www.fjr1300.info/howto/frontstand.html

Use it all the time. Made mine a little taller. Vey handy and stable.
When the rear wheel is off I use a standard little floor jack and 2X4 to lift the front more.
Makes it easy to get the support tie down on and removing the front wheel.

I don't know how much of a option this is for you, but five or six years ago I bought a motorcycle lift at Harbor Freight Tools on sale for less than $100. It's rated for 1500 lbs., more than enough for the ST1300 I had at the time. I wouldn't recommend this stand for constant shop use or anything, but it's certainly sturdy enough for those of us who occasionally have to get both wheels off the ground in a static situation. :-\ Just my 2 cents' worth.

I just use an old car scissor jack I picked up for $1 at a garage sale. Goes under the bash plate. Have used the same jack on all sorts of bikes for years.

Gotta say a lift would sure be nice. My knees don't like kneeling on the garage floor too much these days.

I've been thinking about how I was going to handle lifting the bike as I normally change my own tires. I only use tools that I can normally carry with me; it's sort of annual training on field tire-changing for me. Obviously, I have to make-do in the field but in the garage I want something more steady and reliable. After reading this thread, I got on-line today and Sears is running an internet sale (with store pick-up) on the Craftsman Alum. lift for $162. Picked it up today but haven't opened it yet.

DaFoole, They are nice to use. This bike is first bike where I have had the lift. Harbor Freight $299 with coupon from inside Rider Magazine.

Jeff, been looking at those. Happily, a Harbor Freight just opened up about a mile a way. Now I just gotta find a coupon. Did you get (as xtra) any sort of a front wheel clamp??

Dafoole,
I also bought the solver wheel chock that locks the bike. I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. I use the center stand only. The center stand makes it stable enough. I should install the chock though.

Makes a big difference, not working on the floor.. ::012::
I saw on another forum, person built two boxes made out of wood. I think they were 6" wide and the length of the table.
Made it easier to ride the bike on and put kickstand down and get off. When he wasn't using them, they stored under the lift table. Neat idea..

I posted to Jeff about the side boxes. See that post. I haven't use my wheel clamp since I bought my lift. I do have wider extensions on mine but the idea is the same. Once the bike is on the table and I get off, it goes on the center stand. I think the wheel clamps just get in the way.. jmho

I have a front wheel stand that I originally got for the FJR. Works fine for the S10, though the forks are just a tiny bit narrower on the S10 than the FJR. The stand flexes enough to work fine. Makes it easy to pull the front wheel, work on the spokes, etc. It's a Motoboss. I bought it used from a guy where I was working for $40. There are some on eBay for <$70.
