Stalling after starting

For the last week and about 1500km almost every time I start my bike it runs for about 30 seconds and then stalls. The second time I start it , it stalls again. The third start works fine and then no more issues. The bike runs perfectly otherwise with no idle issues and never stalls until I need to restart after shutting off the bike. Hot or cold is the same problem. Different gas station at every fill since the problem started. 2014 ES with about 50,000km.

All I could find dealt with stalling at lights, or long after it's been running. Once I get it started, it never gives me any problem.

Start with...
...Syncing the Throttle Bodies.
...Check for air leaks. Spray with water or pour water from a bottle.
...Throttle Position Sensors can be out of adjustment.

I recently had an engine light and the end result was replacing the Intake Air Pressure Sensor, adjusting the Throttle Position Sensors, and some other tweaking I don't remember. All of this was under warranty.

Good point over the warranty... if it's a 2014 it may still be under warranty... let the shop sort it ::008::

My TB's were completely disassembled. This is because they did not know what was broken and why it was broken.

It's a Canadian bike out of warranty. I'm in buenos aires now so I'll try and find a friendly dealer.

It turned out to be a faulty MAP sensor, or intake air pressure sensor. It didn't throw any codes. Turns out the easiest diagnosis is to just disconnect it. The bike ran perfectly with it disconnected except for a constant engine warning light. It took a month to get the part but everything is back to normal now.

Just had mine replaced under warranty. Since every thing was out of alignment, they realigned every part in the TBs. They said some of the damage was caused from popping during startup.

Glad to see you got it fixed. Will you be in BA for the Olympics?

I haven't experienced this with the S10 (mine is a 2014 ES too). However, with previous Suzukis, if I recall correctly, certain components in the fuel/exhaust system can be allowed to fail whilst still leaving the bike with normal power output. Some can fail & permit a limp home on reduced power. Then, finally, some can fail & it's game over.

The intake air pressure (IAP) sensor & the Atmospheric (AP) sensor were both in the first category, so the ECU would assume a pre-programmed value if the connector was unplugged, throw the warning light & off you could go to the analyst/dealer for a check up/replacement.

I imagine the S10 will be much the same, but I am a little suprised she didn't throw a warning light/code if not seeing the correct value ranges being fed back to the ECU. When others speak of spitting back/popping it always leaves me to wonder whether they are running the OE headers & pipe, or an aftermarket set up, with/without an Oxygen Sensor on a closed loop, which may not be set up correctly. Equally, an air leak to the inlet or headers can produce similar symptoms.

After all the hard start debate, given the OPs milege/Km, I am assuming there are no other strange issues at start-up.

I unplugged the electrical connection to disconnect it from the bike. It was strange that there were no codes thrown before it was disconnected. The only code found was code 30. Something about the engine shutting off because the bike was on its side. Might have happened a couple of times during our trip . We flew with the bike to Mexico City where I got the new part and everything is back to normal now.
