Without saying anything about the other attendees, I must say, snakebitten has such a great aura/energy surrounding him. I've never met him, but he comes across as such a genuine and friendly person. I could probably learn a thing or two from him about how to live my life. In he meantime, we are lucky to have him around ...

(No, snakebitten hasn't hacked my account .. lol)

The Super Tenere attracts a great crowd. Never met an owner that I didn't like.
Yup - Snake frequently says "I don't give a shit" and it doesn't take long to realize the unspoken words that he leaves off:

"about what don't matter."

Funny thing from introducing our group to the kids. I said something like "...this is Jeremiah and this is Mike and this is Heather and . . . "
Had to pause. The last thing I was going to say to a group of totally sincere kids who take everything completely literal is "This is Snakebitten."
;)
As I was stumbling around and "This is Bruce" was coming out he chimes in with a nice simple "Call me Cowboy." You should've seen the instant connection he had with them.

Nickname is easy. "snake" is almost never available. Snakebitten always is. Lol

WreckerChecker, thanks for the nice backfill. Something about a cowboy, these days, seems to lower folks guard. (I think this world could use a healthy dose of John Wayne. I miss him)

In the picture of the kids above, look closely at the gap between myself and the first chaperone. You'll notice a sweet little missy peeking out from behind. She was a shy one. I couldn't coax her into the photo.
Finally she leaned towards me and barely audibly said "I'm a cowgirl"

SNAP!!!!!!

What a moment. Now forever captured in my cloud account. A cherished memory locked in.

You're a good man snake. You have a big heart. It's a pleasure to know you.

Romney has put their photos on the facebook. https://www.facebook.com/pg/RomneyCycles/photos/ I don't have a facebook account, but it's still possible to scroll through them. Lots of pictures with the kids.

I kinda feel like I missed the highlight of the weekend not being there when the kids were there. The descriptions I had from Checkswrecks and Snake painted a great picture. So glad we have them as our charity.

I'm gonna throw a few coins in the Snakebitten plate, too:

I got a chance to hear some of your stories at Romney and I'm thankful for it. If you fell into a deep, dark, hole, you'd somehow find a little light in it few others could - and then be grateful for having fallen in.

And then you'd tell the story of it with so much humanity that the listener would be forced to take a fresh look at their own deep, dark, holes. I hope our paths continue to cross.

To Checkswrecks and Dirt Dad: thanks again for all your efforts behind the scenes. It's a long haul for me to come to Romney, but it's always worth it - regardless of the weather (easy to say from inside a camper).

What I've learned from #3 (or was this #4 for me?) is that I need to take more time off for this event next year. There's always so much I want to do that I can't cram it all into 2 days.

Good friends, good times, good riding.

That's my takeaway, next year I'm taking a week off to get all the good weather riding in ::013::

Another great year. The official headcount was 87. The last two people arrived from Michigan at 7:00pm Saturday...after all the food was gone. They set out for Romney Saturday morning on their Teneres. I think they said it took 11 hours, (much of it in rain) to join us for a little bit that evening. I enjoyed talking to them around a windy fire last night. I did not enjoy telling them this morning they were heading into a bit of snow just west of Romney...they clearly were not concerned. I do love our group of riders.

What a great weekend. Yes, there was some rain, and yes, there were cold temps on Saturday, but I didn't hear anyone saying they wished they hadn't come. Instead I saw people who were happy to be there to catch up with old friends, were busy making new friends, and just generally enjoying being around so many like-minded, good, generous people. I know I was. I've grown to really cherish the time I get to spend with my friends who I only see one weekend a year at Romney.

Thank you all for taking the time, braving the elements, and doing what it took to join us this year at the Camp N Ride. I'll have more wrap up info later, but I didn't want to delay passing along my appreciation for everyone that participated this year. The camaraderie shared at this event is always my favorite part of doing this year after year. Thanks to all of you for coming and making it great.

Hope you all had a safe ride/drive home.
Thanks Dirt_Dad for the mention. Enjoyed the evening as well. Never saw the snow on the way home but the temps got down to the upper 30's and was mid 60's by the time we got home. We will have to plan more time for this next year and get to ride with everyone. Thanks for all the work you do to set this up.

Just remembered someone was asking me about a ride up to James Bay and I can't remember who it was, my apologies.http://jamesbayroad.com/travel/roads.html

Just saw that Alzride on another post, ("HEY!" from FNG from Kingston, Ontario, Canada), was looking for advice on the James Bay ride. Don't know if that's who asked you, or it is just a coincidence. Didn't know if you wanted to send him a message.

I'd been interested and think I asked. Thanks for the virtual tour. It looks like you put a lot of work into this, and I've not found anything as thorough.

DirtDad, you succumbed? :)

I don't partake often, but when I do, it is with the best of gents. Still, I shall not succumb until another Limey moment. lol

There is something about drinking good scotch from a small disposable cup that just made it impossible for me to avoid bringing some home.

Yes, I succumbed.
