That weather forecast works! Looks like four of us from Derby City and word has it that Anthony is bring some special brown from Kentucky. Got to travel with bourbon you know.

Some final administrative stuff before wheels start turning.

Ride leaders: Thank you. To all the people who have contacted me to say you will lead a ride, or the ones who have not contacted me but plan to lead a group...thank you. Please take only the number of people whom you are comfortable having in your group. Just because we have a huge number, don't over-stuff your group. No one is happy that way.

On the fence ride leaders: If you've had it the back of your head that you might lead a ride, your service can be put to use. Rides can be as small you and one or two other guys. Group rides of three or four are often the perfect size.

Everyone else: Welcome to an international event that gives you a fantastic opportunity to meet your fellow adventure riders. I've lost count of the number of states that will be represented here, plus our friends from Canada, it's going to be a good event.

For those that are looking to join a group ride, there are a number of your fellow attendees who have made plans to lead a group. Ask around, there should be a ride leader somewhere not far from you. Be sure to understand what they are planning for their ride and what is the expected riding style they plan for the group. Even with all that, it's still not a bad idea to have something in mind you would like to explore...just in case.

Weather: Early forecasts look very good. The weather between now and Thursday looks wet. That means if you're planning a route with water crossings, they could be a more interesting challenge than usual.

Fuel: I believe there are only two fuel stations in Romney. You might want to consider filling up on Friday evening before parking at Romney for the night. We could easily overwhelm the available pumps in town if too many of us are looking for gas around the same time on Saturday morning.

Klim Reminder: If you want the 15% discount you need to place your order by tomorrow. You can call Jayson (866-766-1495) in Parts, tell him you're coming to the Camp and Ride and give him your order.

About our sponsor: Romney Cycles is the sole sponsor of this event. As you look around and see the effort and expense that has gone into this event, the credit goes to the Kevin, the owner, and Larry, the GM of the dealership. They take this event seriously and they really do care that everyone enjoys their time at the event. They will be busy running the dealership during business hours, but I do expect them to join us at some points throughout the weekend. If you see them and you appreciate their efforts, please feel free to let them know. Oh, and if you need a new bike or two, they usually have the lowest prices in the country. There's a reason they are the #1 Suzuki motorcycle and ATV dealer in the country, and in the top 10 for Yamaha and Kawasaki. If you haven't seen the dealership yet, you're in for a big surprise.

Charity: We've already taken in donations from riders who cannot make the event. Please consider participating in the raffle, or just making a donation to a worthy cause.

Ride safe gentlemen.

I have no trouble attempting to lead a ride. I plan to try to put the .gpx files in my Nuvi. It works "ok". I don't know the area, so we might spend some time "adventuring". LOL

Either way, if someone wants to follow SwampyVT and I around, you are more than welcome.

2 other questions:

1. Anyone else arriving in the area on Thursday?

2. Any suggestions for how to get there from NJ? I realize 78-81 and then head to WV is the most obvious way, but is there anything noteworthy on the way?

Coming from the east, your biggest potential problem is Baltimore rush hour traffic. After that, the easiest slab way is to just run I-70 to Cumberland and ride down Route 28. Romney Cycles is on your right as you enter town.

IF you are out of rush hours and for about the same driving time (Google lies), it's nicer to come in through Frederick, MD, taking 340 through Harpers Ferry WV, then 50 west from Leesburg, VA. Rush can put a lot of commuters heading west out of Leesburg.

On the way from the east is a good brewery in old town Frederick, photos and a couple of places to eat in Harpers Ferry, the Antiedam battlefields, and food in Shepherdstown.

I have foreign guests through Friday afternoon so will arrive Friday around dusk.

When I picked up my bike at Romneys (trailered it) I bombed down 81 to 50West. It was about 4 hours for me, a little more for you. Obviously, you may want to find a few more back roads if you don't need to be there till later in the day. That should be pretty easy to find nice roads once you get into the area.

I plan to get to my camp in Sugar Grove, WV Wednesday night if the predicted Thunderstorms aren't too bad. Thursday I am going to do a little plinking and ride around while I wait on two friends to show up.

Won't go over to Romney until Friday.

For traffic F-ups, you might recognize it as Philly South.

I got my scouting ride in Friday and Saturday and will have both all-road or a mix of road & dirt in the GPS. I'll keep it entertaining but am not looking for racing or hard-core dirt rides with strangers. Otherwise, if anybody wants a smallish group, we can talk at Friday's camp fire.

Coming from North NJ there is no reason for me to deal with Philly or Baltimore to get to WV. I'll swoop down through PA and the worst I'll have to deal with is Harrisburg maybe.

That looks like my definition of a "good" dirt ride with a 600lb motorcycle 5 hours away from home.

My "maybe can make it" turned into a "can't make it". Will look to see if this event returns for next year. Was looking forward to seeing a large assembly of Teneres and enthusiasts. Will eventually make an event. Happy trails to all planning to attend.

Hey AVC8130,

Current plans are to be arriving in Romney Thursday evening. I'll be coming out of Southern Ohio but I don't know the exact arrival time as I hope to stop and see family along the way. I'm meeting my wife's brother-in-law Thursday (He's coming out of the DC area) and then plan to go towards the Moorefield, Petersburg and points South on Friday for a days riding.

No tenting this trip, will be staying at the Koolwink (located on the right when you come into town from the East on US50). I'm assuming you'll be tenting so when I arrive in Romney I'll swing by the shop and check the camp site and see if you've arrived. Don't know what type of riding your looking for but perhaps we could get together Friday AM if I miss you Thursday evening.

Later ::003::

I want to echo a caution that Checkswrecks has said before, Capon Bridge, a town is about 15 miles east of Romney on Rt 50 is a notorious speed trap town. Do not speed there.

How is the area in general? My experience in most parts of the country is that any time the speed limit DROPS you better slow the heck down. Then, once you clear "town" and the speed limits near 50 things are "ok".

Yeah, we plan to ride down Thursday. I'm not sure what time we will arrive, I need to swap tires on Swampy's bike before we leave and then we are looking at ~5 hours taking the quickest route. Hopefully we get there before dark so we can setup the tent without too much cursing and yelling.

My plan is to ride to Marrietta on Thursday after work with bro Ray and whoever else isn't afraid of rain (originally 6 of us, but dropping like flies). After we stay at Ray's fine camp on the Ohio River we will be heading across 50 on Friday.

Save me a couple of trees to tie my hammock up to.

I wanted to do some off-road on Saturday but I'm thinking any creek crossing may not be a good idea.
