Yeah, too bad one of those intervals doesn't align with when I'll be running wires under the tank as that's about one third of the 'expedition' access wise. :)

Welcome on, hyder4lunch. May I assume you hail from the Hyder area? Or do you just go there for lunch ?? ::025:: ::025:: ::025:: Anyway, ::004:: . When and where did you get your bike ?? R ::022::
Thanks, good to be hear and lots of good info.

I like to think of Hyder as my second home, been there 8 times and can't wait to get back (for lunch)... maybe in the Spring for Hyderseek. Always make it a point to stop in Whitehorse on the way through to upper AK. Love the Yukon too.

I reside in Minnesota, the lower "Great White", and picked up the bike at Moon Motors near Minneapolis, a couple weeks back.

I thought the interval seemed awful short. I had an old V65 Sabre that went 8-10K, changed with valve adjustments and the most recent GSA went 12K.

I'll probably give them a look when I get into things a little deeper. Have some wiring to do this winter and want to get familiar with where things are at.

The weather warmed up to mid 20's F today and the streets were dry (no salt) so went out for a short spin, good fun, but it's going to be a long winter.

And you certainly have winter there. I lived in Hastings for a while, worked in S. St Paul. Had to stop on the way into town and pick up out secretary as I had a 4WD pickup and she only had a car, often couldn't get home from work.

She was in her late fifties, and had been there since they opened the place. Nice lady, but not particularly my type.

Thanks for asking! 8)

Looks like one of those things a person just needs to do once. I received the Service Manual but it doesn't have good diagrams of that particular operation either. Like eemsreno said early on, "You have to take off the air box and unbolt the coils, it's not hard". I'll do some spelunking when it's time to do the accessories wiring.

Thanks one and all for the info and insights.

There is a good diagram and step-by-step of the air case removal on page 4-18. The coil removal process including diagrams is on Page 5-1 Engine Inspection. I think it’s all in the service manual…just in a couple different places that aren’t very well cross referenced imo. There are some good photos of lifting the tank and showing what all is under there HERE (scroll down a little on that page).

If you find this area confusing, wait 'til you get to the wiring diagram in there. Egad

Thanks Twitch. 5-1 was what I was looking for, missed that the first go round. I saw Wasp's thread and thought those were the plugs, but it's a little dark up in front of the Throttle Bodies. Now I know what I'm looking for.

::026:: on the wiring diagrams...

Iridium sparkplug as replacement for the NGK CPR8EB-9

I have always been a great fan of Denso iridium sparkplugs. My experience is that they improve starting and the running of the motor.

NGK does not have an Iridium alternative for the NGK CPR8EB-9 but to my astonishment and joy Denso does! It is the model IU24 (5362)

See http://www.densoaftermarket.com/catalog/cross-reference.php?cross=Spark+Plugs and enter CPR8EB-9

In Holland these are quite expensive. I normally buy them in the UK via eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DENSO-IRIDIUM-Single-Performance-Spark-Plug-IU24-/250548691126?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a55dda0b6#ht_2116wt_754

Note that you need 4 as each cilinder has 2 sparkplugs.

I ran these before and like them. Nice find.

There are dyno's on the YouTube that show an HP or two gain at the top end using these.

Re: Iridium sparkplug as replacement for the NGK CPR8EB-9

Hi Guys,

I've been running and building performance cars since the age of 16. My current car is a 2004 Mini Cooper S which in it's current state put's out 400hp and 275ftlb's. When we first build this motor we like a lot of other in the Mini community were running Denso plugs. We alway had a little stumble at idle as well a miss around 6500 rpm's. I started doing some home work and ran across Brisk plugs. Every artiacal I found on the net ended same with people loving these plugs. After talking with Martin from Brisk I order a set of their Silver Racing plugs. from the moment we started the car I could feel it was smoother at idle. The stumble was gone as was the miss fire up top. I won't get into the debate of extra performance as i've been down that road before. What I will tell is that after posting our finding on the Mini forum a couple years back there are now a huge number of guys who have switched from Denso to Brisk with great results.

I recommend you do some home work on Brisk and learn for yourself.

Today I called Martin at Brisk and they have three plugs that fit our bike but one he recommends over the other. It the Brisk Racing Silver part number AR12Y5. I will be ordering a set tomorrow. If you have any question I recommend calling Martin at Brisk.

Here is a link so you can learn more about these great plugs.

Re: Iridium sparkplug as replacement for the NGK CPR8EB-9

The ND IU-24 does not appear to be a direct replacement, but might work just fine. The difference is that the IU-24 does not have a projected tip, whereas the OEM NGK CPR8EB9 does.

Here is what one source says about the purpose of a projected tip spark plug:

"Projected plugs initiate the flame-front closer to the center of the combustion chamber, which has an effect similar to advancing the timing. This lets the total ignition advance be reduced, decreasing the chances of detonation while providing superior throttle response. A projected plugs longer core nose provides a hotter plug at low speed to help prevent fouling. As engine speed increases, the incoming air/fuel mixture flows across the core nose tip, providing charge cooling that effectively reduces the heat range for increased top-end detonation resistance."

Here are pics of the physical differences.

Here is what you put down "number AR12Y5" but when I looked them up on their site i couldn't find that but did find AR12YS so it that an S and not a 5? No prices listed so don't know how to order them. How much for 4 of them?
