After a long ride on a recently acquired Gan 2 2014 with 1400 miles on the clock I changed Th engine oil and filter, drained and flushed and replaced the coolant and the final drive oil.

My main concern having owned a 2012 gen 1 was the oil in the sight glass, it was always full beyond the sight glass.

Arrived home after a 100 plus ride popped it on the side stand threw on a pair of shorts and got to work. Laid everything out that I needed beforehand so got right to it.

First thing on the oil change is to take off the filler cap, every video that I have viewed this seems to be an afterthought ? If you remove the filler cap prior to the drain plugs you will see that the oil positively gushes out due to not having to overcome the partial vacuum that is created by just removing an oil drain plug. Plus the extra force that is released by opening the filler cap in my opinion drags a bit more if there is any in the first place sludge out of the sump.

That done I was looking at a lot of oil pouring into the waste oil receptacle and a do mean a lot.

So before I fitted the new filter I measured 3.4 litres of oil into my pourer and gently poured some into the new oil filter and left it a few minutes to soak the filter thereby putting a bit more oil into the system further round.

Filled it up and ran it for a few minutes and the oil is where it should be middle to top of the reference marks in the sight glass. Took an empty 4 L oil container and started pouring the waste oil in and lo and behold filled it to the top?

Set about the final drive oil and the first job other than making sure it was relatively free of contaminates was to free off the final drive oil fill plug, the reason being that if you drain the oil out and then you cant open the fill plug your busted.

Thanks for reading.

. . . . Took an empty 4 L oil container and started pouring the waste oil in and lo and behold filled it to the top? . . . .
There's more than a few of us that drain and pour the entire jug back in. The oil light on my bike will not stay off if I don't. Not all bikes have this "problem", if that's what you want to call it. With the two-pan system (semi-dry sump) there doesn't seem to be any negative side effects.

Man, a 12 yr old bike with 1,500mi. Wow.
