Sold the Tiger 800 today now committed to the wait for the Tenere. During the wait it's back on my old 1990 KLR(aka Timex) "it takes a licking and keeps on ticking"

Wow, that's some pretty quick turnaround consider the Tiger 800 just hit the streets not long ago.

That's commitment for ya! ;)

Glad you were able to sell it so quickly. Hopefully you didn't take too big a hit on it.

That 800XC, looked pretty heavy itself on paper. How did it handle its weight?

To sum it up why I got rid of the Tiger. I am a long time KLR rider who has been waiting years for the "new KLR 650 twin" which of course never materialized. I told my self whichever company who came out with a modern dual sport twin i was on it. I looked at the BMW F800 and had the opportunity to demo for a whole day. Price and frankly comfort were the turnoffs. So I waited and "voila" the Tenere was announced coming to the USA. I plopped my money down in Septemeber and started the wait. This spring I rode the S10, R1200GS, and the Tigers. The S10 overall was the best pick and was my new "KLR twin" :). Then the earthquake, tsunami in Japan and I reached a new low in my wait. I convinced myself the Tenere would never be built and I decided to bail out. I bought the Tiger thinking it was it and wow a couple thousand cheaper! After a month with the Tiger I am here to say it was a big mistake. It is an excellent street bike but hitting the fire roads and moderate trails I routinely ride around here it just doesn't cut it. I remembered the demo on the S10 and the smooth compliant suspension, the guttly low end torque and the excellent ergos and side woops, wrong bike. After a $1000 hit I am now waiting the arrival of my Super Tenere. Ride comfort, torque, ergos and the rock solid feel of the Tenere, all things I wished the Tiger was better at but isn't up to the S10 standards.

Did you loose your place in line when you jumped out of the XT? That was cool you got back in if you did leave. Glad you are back on board and at least you know for sure now which bike you like best no harm in checking others out sorry for the monetary loss.

Never did cancel my Tenere order. Guess subconsciously I knew all along it was the right bike. Rode the KLR to Hotlanta today, didn't miss the Tigers buffeting/wind noise at all

Had a demo on the Tiger 800 at the start of the year. Just didn't do it for me. The engine was way to busy for the type of bike. They could have dropped the rev ceiling down by another 4000 rpm for me and increased the spread of low down torque..but i guess Triumph have one eye on replacing the existing 675 range with it sooner or later, so it needs more top end for those bikes.

One of the biggest attractions for me with the S10 is the reported low/mid range torque. I love this type of engine from an overall "rideability", standpoint. I like to keep my hand off the clutch and my foot off the shifter as much as possible. My '02 1200S Bandit had that quality-a real torque monster. With my DL 1000, I had to be more aware of my rpm's and gear selection. I'm hoping that the S10 has the qualities of the Bandit motor, along with all the reports of low COG, great suspension, heavy load hauling ability, ABS, TC, etc.

To paraphrase "The Matrix" (movie), line; 'It's the one'.

My thoughts exactly. It always amazes me how things work out, good or bad. Thankfully this worked out for the best.
