Sold all my bikes to buy a S10

2 months ago, I was happy with my stable full of old bikes. I do not know if it is because of my age (close to 50), the weather (cold winter here) or something else, but 4 weeks ago, I took the hard decision to sell all my bikes and to buy a S10.

We need to go back to 2010 to know what happened. I had my Ural Patrol and my BMW R100GS and was very happy with these 2 adventure bikes. I have been in Labrador, James Bay, Alaska and some other wild or not so wild places, and was happy with my bike choice. Actually, I could not see any new motorbike which could satisfy me more than my old GS. Then Yamaha launched the S10. I went to France to visit family a few weeks after the official launch and started chasing Yamaha dealers who may have one in the show room. And I found one. I did not road test it, leaving at 5000 km from the dealer ^-^ but started to read everything about the S10. It was looking very promising to me, although a bit heavy, and a few things which could have been better made me uncomfortable to buy it. But I was still regularly surfing on Internet to look at the bike and see what kind of upgrades it could be equipped with.
Then came the 2014 model announcement. Gosh! All the minor issues were gone, the Cruise Control I was dreaming of was standard, and I could have electronic suspension and heated hands as well! An incredible fight started in my head, and it finished in March: decision was made to sell everything and to buy a S10 (I have been hesitating with the new to come Honda Africa Twin, but hey! It took me 5 years to take the decision to buy the S10, so I can ride it for 5 years before changing my mind...).

So my Ural and my BMW R90S (74) went on sale a Saturday afternoon. They day after, the Ural was sold and somebody who came to see my R90S bought the R100GS, which was not announced yet.

So I suddently realised I had some cash and could start looking for the Super Tenere I have been dreaming about for almost 5 years.

Decision was taken to try to find a 2014 ES: better deals, I do not really like Yamaha cases (look great, perfectly integrated but a bit fragile for the type of riding I want to do, and almost impossible to fix/expensive to replace. The Pelican type - I have chosen Nanuk cases - is a much better way to go IMO). I found a few around Montreal and finished with a very good deal on the bike I purchased a few days later.

It is in my garage since 10 days and the next time you will hear from me is probably in the "What did you do on your Super Tenerer today". I already mounted the Alt Rider crash bars, the Hepco Becker skid plate is on its way, as well as the Rowe PDM60, SW Motech sidecarrier racks etc... More details to come.

I'm very happy to be with you guys to discuss about trips, mods, accessories etc... The information I already picked on this forum is already priceless to me.

BTW, my BMW R90S is still for sale if somebody is interested, as well as the Yamaha Seca II 600 I bought from my wife (but she changed her mind).

::004:: from Colorado. Like a surprising number of folks here, I came to the S-10 via an FJR (and before that, a V-Strom 1000). Loving my '14 ES. Comfortable ergos, plush ride yet great fun on twisty pavement, reliable, has the shaft drive and cruise control I need for long-distance riding, and makes a very competent two-up tourer. Oh... yeah... it can venture off-road, too... if that's important to ya... :)

Congrats and welcome aboard!

That R90 is a beautiful thing. Be a shame to get rid of her if you can at all keep her.

Oh man - selling the 100GS must have been hard. I just saw a 1992 PD at the local BMW dealer and it looks awesome. Raw, simple, capable.

But congrats to the ES - I have the same bike, Hepco & Becker skidplate, crash bars and Pelican cases, and love the combo. Have fun

I am not gonna lie, that 90 was a nice looking ride, however being a minimalist myself (well working on it) I really like just having one bike, so much less to worry about.

Congrats, hope you enjoy it!

Thank you everybody for the welcome,

My dog Choubaka died earlier this year so this is maybe why I have decided to sell the sidecar.

The R90S is still in the garage... It will be hard for me to let it go. Therefore, I have just announced it on a couple of Canadian forums. I'm not in a hurry anyway.

Since the first pics, pretty much everything has been installed but knobby tires (in the garare) and side cases (still waiting for the SW Motech racks).
