2019 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S

Selling because I just do not ride any kind of sport touring or “ADV” distances anymore, nor do I commute more than a handful of times per month because I need to do afternoon daycare pickup. Tried that once with a baby seat strapped to the back, and they called the cops…joking.

8900 miles

KTM quick shifter+

KTM OEM heated handgrips

Windscreen spoiler to reduce buffeting (works pretty well)

Extra 1290 SAR short windscreen for summer

Garmin LMT 396-S GPS hardwired to come on with the ignition, currently $290 on Amazon

I did not pay for the hill hold control or motor slip regulation. You can have a dealer add those at any time if you want them.

I am the original owner, purchased from Ellicott City Motorsports in November 2019.

Clean and clear Maryland title.

I also have a set of Givi Monokey Trekker luggage (52 liter top case TRK52N, and 2 side cases TRK33N). They are all keyed alike. Retail side cases go for $656, and top case goes for $320 or so if you can find it. Will include these cases for extra $750, total price $14k. Not interested in selling just the cases without the bike at this time.

IMHO hill hold feature is not something anyone should miss. I've kept it turned off on my SAS.

Good luck with the sale. The SAS is the most entertaining bike I've ever owned.

Thanks, I think I'll need the luck as I've tried selling in the last few weeks leading up to Christmas in the past, and it is a dead zone for people to buy bikes.

Try a top-box. Just drill a couple of air holes, and you're good to go. Works in all weather, too.

If the KTM had a drive shaft, it would have 30+bhp less.
Sorry, I couldn't let this go. You're wrong. Yes, a driveshaft has higher loss from engine to rear wheel, but 1) a driveshaft does not limit hp developed at the crank 2) a driveshaft does not cause 30hp loss otherwise it would be red hot (the power has nowhere to go but to be turned into heat)

Sold yesterday to a local buyer. If Yamaha comes out with a gen 3 S10 that has another 30 hp, I'll be back.
Congrats on the sale.

I have to admit, it's hard for me to imagine Yamaha coming out with a competitive gen 3 Tenere. The leap would almost require a whole new model.

I agree with #1. But, there is a parasitic loss with any final drive, with shaft being the largest loss. I remember reading somewhere, decades ago, that it's 28% or something similar. I don't the how, but the loss is real.

i always thought it was more like 10% loss with driveshaft

You could be right. I read 28% w-a-a-a-y back. When shafts caused the ass end to rise. Improvements made them more user friendly, so maybe they became more efficient. Regardless of how much though, they are the least efficient as far as transmitting engine power to the ground. That being said, I don't see myself going back to chain.

Agree with chain sucking big time. You don't realize it of that's all you ever had, but once you go black pumpkin, you never go back.

My unscientific test. When I put my chain drive zrx1200 on the centerstand and give it a spin. It spins a lot easier than my s10. I think it's probably more like 10% harder. These modern chains can take a beating and last a long time.
