Awwww. I am disappointed. I read the title of this post as "Giant Loon" and I thought we were going to see pictures of a SuperTen with birds in the northern wilderness!

A fellow called Wolftrax on ADV posted this shot of his SuperT with a Giant Loop mounted... looks like it works.

Anybody have pics of the ST using the Giant Loop soft luggage system? I couldn't find any on the net but after viewing the below video, I'm kind of intrigued. Thoughts??

Hi Pete,
I've planned on getting the Great Basin bag all along to carry stuff while commuting but, could never find out if it will hold a full helmet in the middle. Still plan to go that route when I get my bike. I know a guy who swears by his over a hard case system. His is black. Sure looks good on his black sportbike.

I'm a Giant Loop convert after years of running hard luggage. The Great basin fits the S10 like it was made for it. I removed my rear seat and the bags and weight are very centered and low on the bike. It takes less than a minute to take off and I love the fact that when I'm camping my luggage goes right to the picnic table with me. They are waterproof after you treat the seams with seam seal(included). I've had some slow speed get offs and the bags survived without incident, Actually they serve as soft armoure. They mount very tight to the bike and going down the road you don't even know they are there! Highly recomended. :)

Man, I can tell you and I think along the same lines! You like to "kill birds with one stone" too! What you just described about carrying the bag is what I've had in mind all along! Thanks for clearing it up with those pics concerning the helmet. By the way, I see you're from the N Ga. mountains. My son and I used to backpack all over up there until he out grew me. I hope to backpack on my bike (if I can get approved tomorrow). Who knows. Maybe, He will eventually "see the light" and rejoin his "archaic" Dad.

Good luck on the financing. The S10 is perfect for "backpacking" off. This last weekend I did the Ga section of the TETS on the S10, it was awesome.

It seems everyone uses the Giant Loop luggage on the rear seat. Is it possible to use it with a passenger? Possibly on the rear rack? Looking for luggage options, really like the Giant Loop, but will also need to carry a passenger on trips occasionally..

I have a Giant Loop Great Basin bag. I think you could set it up behind a pillion. It would probably be easier with the AltRider luggage rack because of all of the slots. (Mine's on order) I'm taking a trip this weekend, I'll try to post a few pics with the GB bag attached.

Steveva,

It looks like it can be done.

The bag is barely full. My tools are in the lower black sections and I have my jacket shoved in the top to fill it out a bit. I tried to get it basically in place and strap it down enough that you could see where the contact points are. The exhuast does not touch. The way I did it, there is some blockage of the hand rails, but you could probably work around that.
I'd think a better/bigger luggage rack would be very helpful. Stock appears to work.

I need to finish packing. I'm meeting up with friends at 8:30, which is early for me. I'll be back in a few days. If you have questions, let me know.

Ivan,
Perfect! Now that I know that it will work as is (until I get a bigger rack anyway) I will be ordering one for-with.. Thanks again for the pictures! Have a safe trip..

The bag worked perfectly. It settles a little but that probably has more to do with my lazy packing style. Easy to take off the bike. Easy to reinstall in my pre-Red Bull fog. I usually had to tighten up the lower straps at the first stop. Once the bag is in place, you can't feel it shift because it doesn't. The bike felt neutral and I didn't bother to up the rear pre-load. If anything I wants to backoff the front pre-load, but I was too lazy to dig out tools.

I'll post a couple pic tomorrow after I get some sleep.

And I thought nobody cared. :-[

Signs of "First Dirt"

The buckle scratched up the heat shield a bit, but I don't much care. I think if I would have mounted the bag laid back using the tie downs or hand holds, it would have been fine. I chose to use the rear pegs as my lower anchor point and it worked fine while keeping the load stable.

I took the rear seat off and mount on the cargo rack. This lowers the weight even lower and allows for a tighter load. I also used carabiners in the holes on the rear peg brackets to tie the straps off to, Very secure. Pics will follow when I get her back from Parabelllum!
