The good news is you can perform the inventory search through Yamaha's site (click "search dealer inventory" on the left side). The bad news is, it's largely inaccurate. Last I checked, one of the dealers they listed with inventory was out of business.

Interesting topic. I bought my 2012 Super Tenere in July 2013. It had sat on the showroom floor for many months by that time. My dealer is a friend of mine, and he personally loves the Super Ten, but I think he is reluctant to have another unit take up space in his shop without more interest from the buying public. I can hardly blame him for that. Inventory gathering dust is a liability to him. I am not sure what the answer is. I think my Super Tenere is probably the best bike I have ever owned over the past forty some-odd years. If I needed to replace it tomorrow, I would buy another Super Tenere. It may be doomed to be a small market bike for the remainder of its run, but as long as there is some market for it, I hope Yamaha will keep producing it.

Cheers,

Bruce

my theory is that the adventure bike market is huge but once the price climbs into the 10000+ range the number of eligible buyers drops thus the popularity of bikes such as the dr650; klr650 etc. are so good. Lets face it some of us,including myself , just don't have unlimited disposable income. I bought this bike mainly because of the huge discount but doubt seriously i would buy another so i plan to hang onto it for a long time. Another sign of the declining middle class in this country!

Mine (bought in August 2014) is now on 12800km after my recent short solo trip to Namibia.

Is there a board on the forum specific for ride reports?

You might check Craigslist as well. Dealers will advertise on there frequently and typically if they do, they actually have the stock to back it up. Per my experience anyway, YMMV.

JRE is right about the dealer inventory search being a hit or miss. In my case, I called all the dealers that Yamaha's website listed having the ES in stock. All but one had them but the pricing and trade in numbers varied wildly. So, for me anyway, the dealer inventory search worked very well. I ended up driving ~ 230 miles to a dealer (also found on Yamaha's site) that was willing to deal. Again YMMV.

It's a similar situation here in the UK, I bought my bike new in June last year and several dealers advertised that they had bikes 'for immediate delivery' and actually didn't. As has been said before you need to be prepared to travel to get the best deal. I went to the other side of the country to pick up mine.

I did that for drama, the other side of the country isn't far away in England...

I work around the corner from the Cool springs Yamaha. I can pop in there at anytime if anyone needs eyes on inventory and photos

It is a catch 22. Dealers will not stock them, since they don't sell. But, they don't sell, at least in part, because dealers don't stock them. So, what is the right answer from a dealer viewpoint?
One business measure sometimes used by dealerships is the amount of revenue produce per square foot of showroom floor space. Another common business measure is monthly cost of floor planning and average number of days in floor plan of floor plan, those are measures of real cost to the dealer of bikes sitting in the show room. That means you gotta stock bike that will sell quickly. From a dealer perspective it's the right thing to do.

The dealership in Franklin Tn has a 2014 listed on cycletrader. I sent them a email and surprise, they don't actually have it. They did claim to have 2015's and tried to sell me on that.
Anyone going to these guys, you need to call first, clearly they advertise bikes for sale that they do not have.

A short days drive down I-40 will find you with 1 2014 ES and several used 2012 and 2013's here in Oklahoma City. Maxey's Cycle is always ready to deal. I think right now he would almost give one away just to move a bike during the winter...

Pricing at Romney's make them a good bet when ya can't find a bike locally and are willing to do a fly/ride. Seems their business model is based on volume rather then getting the max $$$ out of every sale... GOOD ON THEM!
Yep, they are all about volume. I was told they sold every '14 Tenere they could get their hands on this year. When I was out there just before Christmas the GM told me he was down to "only one" on the floor. He said the S10 was a great seller in 2014.

Volume is their business. Across the board on every bike, ATV, or side by side they are amongst the lowest if not the lowest price in the country. They do what it takes to make people want to buy from them. Bought my last 4 bikes from Romney. I suspect it's only the beginning.

One of my local dealerships got stuck with a super ten, or at least they felt that way. I may have helped to sell that bike by talking about it here. But that dealership probably feels like they got burned and will not stock a Super Ten, of course you can order one with a deposit.
Lake Hill in Corinth Ms is a volume dealer. The owner chatted us up one day and told us that he sells everything at cost, he makes his money from the manufactures rebate, charge back, or hold back whatever it is called.
I would like to have access to the ware house data base so that I could see the number of 2014's left in inventory. For the Mid-South I think the dealers pull their stock from a warehouse in Atlanta.

When I was trying to help a fellow forum member find a 14 ES recently, while the $2,000 incentive was still in effect, my dealer tried to order one and none were available. He did a dealer search and found there were 2 at dealers in our state of IL and he got one of them from one of those dealers for this customer.
