A friend suggested a Wolfman tailbag to me. I love their stuff, but got to thinking about a more permanent, water-resistant, lockable solution. That leads me back here.

Post up shots of what you run as a tailbag on your rig, please. I'm really looking for ideas, as almost any "box" the "right" size can be bolted in place. Honestly don't care if what you have is stock, garage-made, hard side, soft sided, over easy or extra crispy. Looking for ideas!

In my mind, I'd like a mid-sized box (smaller than the factory top box, for example, yet large enough I could mount a backrest onto for my spouse).

But what's on YOUR bike might be better than what's in my mind... ;)

Duane, I canunderstand you wanting some pics for reference. You might be inclined to go for one of the Pelican boxes and be able to choose the size which best suits you. I have seen some pretty small ones and think they look pretty good.

I get the idea of small, they look good and less weight, but I found I need more space. A key element for me (and even more for the wife) is the ability to hold two full size helmets. She hates to have to carry her helmet around when we go somewhere on the bike. Also when I am traveling for work, like I am now, I need to carry by backpack with all my computer stuff. So I went with a Givi E55. Lots of room, waterproof, locks, and easy to open and close.

Not "adventure style" but it really works well and that is what I care most about.

I've got the Givi 55 as well, for the same reasons as you. Solid bit of kit as the Brits would say - doesn't really look the adventure part - but does a solid job nonetheless.

I've had the same Givi E45 top box since 1996. These things are bulletproof. The extra capacity weighs next to nothing when you don't need it but sure comes in handy when you do.

The soft bag in front is the BMW Rollbag 2. Not cheap but you get your money's worth. Attaches to the bike via straps at the bottom, three sets included for mult-bike use), totally waterproof and contents can be readily accessed via a top zipper.

I have the same setup. Recently broke the right-side case during a crash. I also like the D38 but wish the opening was a bit larger. I have an AltRider Rear Luggage Rack that is not installed yet.

I run a Pelican case mounted to the Altrider rack. It has 12V inside for charging devices as well as an extra running and brake light mounted to the bottom.

Gat - which Pelican is that. Looks to be a close size to what I was envisioning. My real need being a place to carry my laptop bag when commuting...yet low profile enough that I can still carry gear on top if travelling. I'd say, judging by the pics, your Pelican is close to what I seek.

Me three, but I don't have the stock panniers, I just use the other wet bag from the twisted throttle set up on top of the one shown here

Anyone got one of these??? I was thinking of going this route for daily riding...ditching the panniers and topbox.

Only issue I see is the need for the separate rain cover. Been there, done that, not going back. Water resistant or bust for my money.

And while I could "solve" the problem with dry bags inside...well, I prefer one solution to two.

All that said, they look fantastic!

I can understand the attraction of a textile tail bag for offroad riding, but for on road you can't beat the convenience and security of a Givi box.

+1
I run two 33ltrs Trekkers and a big 54ltr Trekker on the back to accomodate two flip-up helmets. One thing i don't want is to keep +1000$ helmets and 400$ comm. exposed and secured with a wire. When i'am solo, off roading or whatever, i have few options. Take of everything, use the side trekkers, wich by the way work great im traffic, or use one small trekker as a top box. I use this solution a lot when off roading.

Check out the pica for some solutions.
