At an intersection today, a car window went down and guy said "Nice bike! Is that a Buell?" .. When I replied that it was a Yamaha I got a thumbs up ::008:: and another compliment "Looks very cool!". Seeing as how this has happened before (a Harley rider talked to me about it at the motorcycyle shop earlier today as well). I was wondering if anyone else is getting street shout outs or other compliments and where they are coming from.

When I first got the Super Tenere, I rolled up to a stop at a remote intersection in the middle of central California. There was nobody around except two goldwing riders and their pillions stopped on the side looking at maps. I looked over and nodded then just as I'm starting to go I hear "Wait!". The one guy comes over and asked "is that one of those new Yamaha adventure bikes?" I said yes and he started asking questions so I shut down. He looked the bike over and indicated he was interested in buying one when they became available. I said they are here now.

While sitting at an outside resturant close to our S10s a couple of young crotch rockets guys came over to look at our bikes not realazing that we were just sitting a few feet away. One leans over to his buddy and says, "why would anybody buy such ugly bikes?" We had a good chuckle. ::001::

I've heard that one a number of times.
When I had the one-piece 'Stitch, I also had some high school squids call me the blue power ranger.
They'll grow up.

On the other hand, I've also been asked "What BMW model is that?" [groan]
::)
I tell those folks that it's the BMW Recovery Vehicle. A term I got from this forum.

Weird, not sure why people are confusing it with a Buell. I've had them ask the same; along with "...Beemer?", and "...Aprilia?" :eek:

I ran into an enthusiastic guy at the gas station last weekend. "Wow, cool bike." He asked a couple of questions and I told him it is good on and off road. With a big grin on his face he pointed at the bags and asked what are those for? I told him so I can ride long distance. He tilted his head and asked how far? I told him my wife and I rode our bikes to Newfoundland a few months ago. Huge smile, "that's cool, what does your wife ride?" Same thing as this I answered. He was blown away.

I could tell he wanted to stay and ask more, but the line behind his pump forced him to move along. It was a fun encounter.

Last Sunday I was at a popular watering hole, I was asked if the bike was mine. Turns out he owns one as well. After a quick chat he gave me his card. Sales manager of a Harley-Davidson dealership.

Because a lot of people remember the Buell Ulysses, partly because it was so different for Buell, partly because it was their only adventure bike ever, and many people in that HD/Buell genre had never looked at adventure bikes or dual sports with any idea people would ride them over long distances.

If someone said my S10 looked like a Buell I'd probably punch him in the face! ;)

Last night I agreed to meet my wife at a local watering hole after work. It was 39 degrees, but since it was a short 8 blocks for me I just threw on the jacket, helmet and light gloves. I met my wife and threw the gear into the car instead of packing it in. Then she said "you could've had a front row sot" and pointed at another parking spot right in front of the door. I decided that'd be cool and walked back over, hopped on and fired up to ride across the parking lot to the new spot. As I hopped the curb to park nose-out in the parking spot a guy comes out of the bar. He looks at me and the bike and says "Man, you riding in short sleeves in this weather?

Best I could come up with was 'well, Adventure riders are a tough lot" O:)

Then I fessed up ...
