Hey fellas, the other day while turning around in a gravel parking lot I lost my footing. I was litterally at a stand still and the bike was leaning to the left. I couldn't hold it up and simply laid it down. I was standing over the bike still straddling it, I reached downand hit the kill swith, stepped over the bike and picked it up. No damage to anything except my ego. Other than the dirt on a couple of places on the crash bars there was no evidence I had even laid it down. But a day or so later I noticed the left crash bar was far closer to the faring on the left side than the right. Not touching the fairing just much closer. I don't remember it being that way before but I wssnt looking for it. Do they bend that easily or are they built like that. A big concern is i also have an acid skid plate and when I take the bolts off to service next time is the bars going to be a bear to bolt back in due to being bent. Any way, yals thoughts?

Look at the mounts - are they bent?

I know AltRider usually has a bike laying on it's bars at shows to demonstrate the weight they can handle. If you were there and essentially helped the bike "fall" to the ground, there is a good chance you're seeing design v. bent bars. I have a set - uninstalled. My Givi bars have taken a trail riding wipe-out with nothing more than scratches.

Just for peace of mind, the left bars are a bit closer. The right is out further so you can easily get the electronics cover off. A pair of 65mm long 12x1.25 studs will be appreciated down the road.

No, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

Edit: I am however surprised your bike did not shut off on its own, that is interesting ;)

Thanks fellas, it may have very well shut its self off I don't remember. It was kind of stressful( my first drop) and embarrassing right in the middle of a country store parking lot but, I do remember hitting the kill switch and had no problem picking it up the way I've seen on videos on YouTube. It did make me feel good that I thought I did everything right after the drop. Thanks agin for the advice fellas.

IT will not be your last, more bonehead to come ::010::

I dropped the Tenere when simply backing up on the lawn, foot just slipped and down I went. I too was surprised how easy it was to pick up.

Mine fell over on the center stand in the fairly soft dirt the first time. . It went down throttle side. Mine is close to touching the plastic now. Maybe I got a weak set but I was disappointed to see that bent it. Since then. Mine has been down about 9 times at a max of 1 mph. Usually zero mph. It's been dropped turning around on the blactop clutch side at least 3 times. Didn't bend that side at all. Bottom line is No Damage to anything so far. Some nice scratches on the black altriders.

Brad,

I remember the Altrider Body Guards (don't like saying crash bars) being closer on my 2012. The new Altrider Body Guards give more clearance for a 2015.

This last week I came across a stranded Tenere rider on Mattole Rd (Lost Coast). The only coolant was in the overflow bottle. The Tenere was previously backed into and knocked over in a gas station. It fell on its radiators side. The rider thinks it was a tightly packed Storm storage bag that caused the damage by pressing against the left side panel which pressed the radiator fan into the radiator. We were able get the side panel off but it was tight. This is a 2012 Tenere. Not sure if there is a different fit for Gen1 and Gen2 or if Altrider has changed the build of the Body Guard.

Hope this helps.

pretty hard to get the left panel off on my 2013 with AltRider bars. But I have tested mine a few more times than you I think ::001::

Four drops on the left side (that I know of) since installing my AltRider bars. Twice in the sand, once on hardpack and one low speed low-side resulting in a shower of sparks on a cold winter's night. The clearance between the panel and bar was always close so I can't say if they have bent. All I know is my fan and radiator work just fine and the bodywork remained in one piece. Solid engineering, burly and looks it.

I doubt its bent. I've dropped mine like you described on tarmac and it scratched up the bars but didn't bend anything. If you can get the panel off its fine. Its not easy but if you can remove the panel its okay...
