Hi Folks,
A quick question.
Yam 2020 XTZ1200ZE,when stationed at the lights and your in 3rd gear the bike won’t shift down without moving,I’ve a 2012 bike and I can shift down to the bottom and up 1 to Neutral.
Any recommendations to fix this.
Thanks

Being a huge fan of the engine braking, I'm in the habit of dropping gears as I approach a red light or stop sign. I usually don't pull the clutch in and hold it until the last 15yds or so, and downshift into 1st if I know that I'm coming to a complete stop. If something happens and I need to accelerate out of trouble, I just release the clutch and gas it.

I've had this on all of my bikes at one time or another. Now I shift into 1st as I roll to the stop, then flick it into N if it recently turned red, otherwise just hold the clutch in until it's green.
On the rare occasion I have to stop abruptly and didn't downshift, I rock the bike back and forth until it downshifts, then I berate myself for not paying more attention and avoiding the need for the abrupt stop.

"Resting your hand" leaves you a sitting duck for being rear-ended, and other calamities that might be avoided by a quick getaway.
I suggest taking longer breaks at fuel stops, instead.

This is my reasoning as well. ALWAYS clutch-in and in 1st gear at stoplights, right foot on the brake lever to hold the bike, hand on the throttle ready to act if the need arises (and always watch my mirrors at stops)
