I’m in my 10th year of riding and have spent the last 7 on a Yamaha FZ1. Literally the FZ1 was the most hassle-free bike imaginable.
A few months ago I got the itch to start dual-sport riding. After examining a few brand new CRF250L’s and KLX250’s, I took my wife’s approval and actually landed on a substantially cheaper 2005 KLR 250.
After 2-3 sessions in the dirt, I was sold that I wanted my next bike to be an ADV bike. My FZ1 experience pointed me right at the Super Tenere and I found an awesome 2016 ES at a BMW Dealer about 5-6 weeks ago and I love it. At 600lbs it’s amazing how well it’s done in some challenging rocks and dirt already; can’t wait for a full season.
I’ve added altrider crash bars at top and bottom, a headlight guard and some new Solobox panniers after both OEM panniers bit the shit.
I’m looking forward to putting back a lot of time on this bike over the next few years
