I thought I liked the bike better with my seat in the low position even though I am 6'3" with a roughly 34" inseam (maybe a bit shorter) and 225lbs or so. Mostly because I thought I prefered to sit "in" rather than "on" the bike, as in the difference between a KLR and a sport-touring bike.

I put it on the high setting again and it feels like I have better physical control over the bike during slow manouvering and tipping into corners - flicks over easier it seems. Also doesn't hurt to give the old legs a little more room to stretch so they aren't quite as tucked under.

I have the Yamaha tall windshield on highest setting and winglets and this combo seems to work pretty well. Tried the stock windshield again tonight as an experiment on all settings and then put the tall shield back on. Could NOT find a setting with the stock shield that didn't result in me taking a full frontal of wind or experiencing helmet buffeting like crazy. Tall shield is WAY better - on the highest setting I get a little wind near top of helmt. Can ride with shield up and not take a wind pounding in the face.

Just an observation - I think any improvement on ergos which enhances control is a good thing. Maybe there is an even better setup out there?

Im 6ft 4.5in tall and 34in inseam.

I have the stock screen and added the Russian spoiler to it which a big difference.
What made the biggest difference to wind noise was adding the winglets - it changes the air air behind the windscreen which then reduces the wind being sucked down on the head.

I did not mind the original seat position in high. Knees and hips were OK. have never ridden in low position.
I did try the seat tilt mod by replacing the rear 3 bumpers with shorter ones - but found the seat rocks back and forth a little and it was harder to lock.

I add Pivot Pegs and had to install them in the 10mm lowered position... man this made a huge difference in my riding comfort. Love the pivot action, wider foot print for standing and the under shape allows for more lean angle then the stock pegs :)

I then upgraded the foam and cover to seat concepts with a heavy weight foam. This made the seat harder to sit on with the tilt mod, so I put the stock talll bumpers back on and it is all better. the Seat Concepts has raised the seat a bit so I sit higher - better for the hips.

So with the 10mm lowered pegs and about 1-1.5in rise in seat height in high position... hip and knee ergos are great.
with the taller seat position I'm still OK with the stock windscreen in highest position and Russian spoiler.

I have the RRR riser with 9cm extended lines but my wrists were getting sore with the OEM bar sweep angle, so last weekend just changed the handle bar to the Pro Taper Contour Rapter - I'm luck I was able make it all just fit!!!
Extra bar height (RRR riser set to min) is now perfect for me to stand with leg straight arm straight and have nice full hold of the bars with a straight back and next too no forward lean.

It is a lot to do. but I did these mods over 1 year of ownership doing one thing at a time and working out what next to try.
Each of these did add to better my riding ergos.

The Tall windshield is more than tall. The shape makes a big difference. I have mine spaced forward with flat rubber washers. Two on the top and one on the bottom. Can be a bit finicky but it does make a small difference... plus.

I have experienced the exact same issue as you and I have the tall windshield as well. I can tell you for certain that I was unhappy getting wind directly into my eyes but not below my nose, so I tried an experiment with one of those windshield extenders and holy moly let me tell you, it's like heaven now. I bought a windshield extender from Rugged Roads that clips on the top and has variable height and angle, and once I found the angle that works for me, I've been riding nonstop with my visor open.. no wind in my face at all!

Sounds good.

RicoChet - can you post a pic of your setup? I'd love to see what it looks like. Thanks!

The seat mod feels good but even with the half step rubbber grommet in the metal in the back of the seat it still wobbled up and down too much for me when I was not seated on bike. I know it compresses when you sit on it and works like it should, but too much up and down wobble foe my taste.

So I ended up trying one of the original large rubber pads in that space and it worked - but it was too tight a fit and it pushed one side of the front f my seat into the gas tank where it would rub on it excessively.

So having a band saw, super glue, and a can-do attitude I took one of my extra half step rubber pad and sliced it in half. Then I super glued it to the bottom of the one in the back bracket. Perfect fit now with no wobble - like before the mod. And all of the rubber pads rest on the plastic tray before you even sit on the bike.

Here's a photo in case I didn't make any sense:
