welcome to the site.

You're going to open a can of worms.
screens are personal, so it's what works for you.

To start you may want to look at a madstadd bracket, to see if the stock screen will work with it.

I have one of those, and a mra x-screen which works for me.

good luck.

I'm 5' 8" (~172 cm) with a 29" inseam (~74 cm), and I have these Rox Risers - http://roxspeedfx.com/product/rox-pro-offset-block-riser.htm - mounted with stock OEM handlebars. I have tried a ton of different windscreens... Yamaha's taller accessory touring screen, National Cycle V-Stream, CalSci, etc....

But the one that has worked light-years better than all the rest has been the Parabellum - http://parabellum.com/Super-Tenere-Replacement-Windshield-P79.aspx

<pics from the Parabellum web site>

I have the "Medium" Parabellum shield - 22" (~56 cm) tall, but they have other sizes available, and will even custom cut one to whatever height you wish. Not only does it work by far the best for me, with clean, smooth airflow with little or no buffeting, but it was also had the best fit and finish as well as appearing to be made out of much higher quality material. Clean, smooth, polished edges... smooth, even, perfectly radius corners... and optically perfect.

It's my favorite, by far... But as others have mentioned, windscreens are a very personal item, and what works wonderfully for one rider makes another miserable. Hence you may end up trying two or three before you find the right one for you.

BTW, I have a ton of pictures of my Parabellum on my bike, and from all sorts of angles, including from the saddle. Let me know if you want me to post some of those up, and what angles you'd like to see, and I'll try and accommodate.

Hope this helps!

I'd like to see your Parabellum pics if you don't mind posting... Also, where does the top of that 22" screen lie in regard to your line of sight? (Above/below)

Thanks,

Brian

Well below my line of sight... Like around 3 inches, though that depends a bit one whether I am using the Cee Baileys modded or Seat Concepts modded saddle, and whether I have the saddle in the high or low position. Most of my riding is done with the Cee Baileys, but with it about equal in both high or low positions. With it in the low position I look over the Parabellum a good 3 inches or so, maybe more.

I'll try and get some pics up in the next few days, but I'm heading to bed now... Departing at 5:00am in the morning for a ride up to meet some buddies in Austin. I'll get something up once I get back home.

I have the Madstad adjustable bracket and a Cee Bailey 22" windscreen. I am 5'10" with 30" inseam. Works great for me.

I put a Givi Airflow on mine 150 miles ago and, so far, could not be happier. It has plenty of protection when adjusted up without blocking too much airflow and bring hot. And it can be adjusted down in seconds at a stoplight for running around town.

+1. Givi Airflow works for me.

I'll be a third. Got mine on this Tuesday and ride to work all week. Money well spent!

Not really sure what type of pics folks will specifically be looking for, but I guess the best place is to start off with some that try to help with your question about my line of sight over the Parabellum windscreen. I took these this past weekend while riding, and I tried to take them from as close to the exact position of my eyes...

These were taken at different ties of the day - the first one early in the morning heading west, the second mid-morning heading north - and as you can see I tried some different things with the camera. Though both are fairly accurate as to my view off the bike, let me point out that for some reason the camera lens on my little Canon S95 makes it appear my line of sight is slightly higher than I perceive it when I'm riding. It seems to make it look like I am peering over the screen by 4 or 5 inches, when I'd have to say it's more like 3... Maybe just a bit more.

Anyway, regardless of the exact line of sight measurement, the point is I do look clearly well over Parabellum's "medium" 22-inch screen, yet the airflow is smooth, quiet, and buffet-free. I can ride behind it all day, and the ride I took Saturday was over 450 miles total. Just for the record, again I am 5' 8" tall with a 29" inseam, and I wear a Schuberth C3 Modular helmet, always with foam earplugs. Most of the time on the highway I have the Schuberth's shield open about a quarter of the way, for ventilation, and around town my faceshield is always open all the way.

Here's a pic from a ride I took this past March, and it may give you a pretty good idea of how high the screen is in relation to the mirrors, etc., though it is taken from an angle where I am slightly above the bike...

This pic, also from that ride in March, shows my Parabellum shield (my bike is the one on the left in front) in comparison to a National Cycle V-Stream Sport on the pic at screen right in the pic, as well as a Givi on the bike directly behind mine. Note, too, there is a Super Tenere with with a MRA Vario just behind the bike with V-Stream on it (guy with the hi-viz jacket seated on the black Tenere).

That's probably enough pics for this post, but please let me know if you need some others, and from what angle, and I'll see if I can accommodate.

Hope this helps!

Fantastic pics and comments on your set up Dallara. Extremely helpful! Thank you for taking the time to post them. Please correct me if I'm seeing it wrong, but it appears you have your Parabellum mounted in the upper mounting holes on the windscreen bracket... If that is the case, I'm thinking of ordering the 24" Parabellum, and mounting it in the lower holes. I'm a tad taller at 5'10'' and 30" inseam and prefer to look over the screen as well. I'd rather discover its a little tall and have the option of cutting it down, rather than realizing it's too short. I'm currently riding with the seat in the low position, but can monkey with that as well to see what works best wind wise.

Any comments on my reasoning?

Also, I wear the same helmet and have the same camera. I bought a lot of 3 nonfunctional S95's on eBay on the cheap a while back to fix my original. If you ever happen to break anything on yours, let me know. There's a pretty decent chance I have a part for it.

Thanks again,

Brian

No problem, Brian. Happy to help.

Just for the record, the Parabellum is designed from the ground-up to *ONLY* mount in the upper holes of the Tenere's stock bracket. There are lots of reasons for this, but they really aren't important once you know going in that's the case. The main one is it gives the exact, proper amount of *venting* to avoid negative pressure behind the shield, which is one of the reasons it is so quiet and turbulence free behind the Parabellum screen. CalSci tries to do much the same thing with their little "vent hole" in their larger Super Tenere screens, but it doesn't work nearly as well. I know, I had one! ;)

Oddly enough the only people I've ever known to be dissatisfied or report negatively on the Parabellum shields are those who have tried to mount them in the lower holes (despite the fact Parabellum says not to). They have problems with turn signal clearance, handlebar guard and mirror interference issues, etc. when trying to use the lower holes, whereas the shield fits perfectly and functions wonderfully if folks just follow Parabellum's design of having the shield mount only in the upper holes! ::025::

Another point about Parabellum... You are right in thinking of buying too tall and cutting it down if necessary. Parabellum's policy is they will cut-down any of their shields for free if you buy them too tall, but they will *NOT* exchange a used shield that's too tall for a shorter one. Just FYI.

Hope that answers your question.

And thanks a ton for the offer of Canon S95 parts! I love my S95, and actually think it's better than the latest two replacements Canon has made for it. My S95 is with me whenever I am on the bike, period, and it's amazing the pics *AND* video you can take from the saddle with it. I hope mine never breaks but if it does I'll be in touch.

BTW, you probably already know about this little farkle for the Canon S95, but in case you don't - do you have one of Richard Franiec's S95 "Grips" on your camera?

http://www.kleptography.com/rf/#camera_s90

If you don't have one I can heartily recommend it. It makes shooting with one hand a *TON* easier and more secure, and actually helps in any and all shooting situations. I have had mine on my S95 now for three years and it's been perfect. Best thing I ever did for the S95.

Just FYI.

Dallara,

Thanks for mentioning the bracket mounting hole instructions on the Parabellum. That makes perfect sense. I'm going to try that grip...

Happy Trails,

Brian
