Sunday was traveling hwy 50 east bound about 90 miles west of Salida, Co. There were 3 blue ones and some other bikes. I about jumped off my bike (was east bound to monarch pass).

Just home from 3500 miles to Torrey Utah and back, via Salida Co. Did 5 passes in CO while there monday and tuesday. Cottonwood, Cumberland, and will get the names of the other 3 from my buddies. I was chasing a KLR 2up, LOL. Great trip, and Super Tenere and I have bonded.

P.S. The Scout 60 rocks. When you go offroad, really off road, let some air out of your tires, maybe 28f and 30r. I was at 33f and 38r, did an old railroad trail up the mountain, VERY rough, broke my front fender at the sides across from the brake line that crosses. And also broke a lowbeam filiment. Electrical tape held the fender for 3 more hours of offroad, plus 2 day trip home with some triple digits. Love this bike!

Update: I talked to one of the other riders, the BAD ROAD where I broke my fender and light, was "Alpine Tunnel", an old railroad bed built in the early 1800s. Great switchbacks going up there.

Saw my first one on Hwy 28 in NC just west of the Smoky Mtns...blue, heading the opposite direction as I entered the highway.

Front fender is $131 plus shipping! I am trying to repair the one I cracked, but it will not look new, just usable. The fender extenda adds quite a bit of weight to the end past the back mount and most likely caused the break, that and I had too much air in my tires for such a rough trail.

The headlight is H7 and took about 45 seconds to replace, so I will be carrying a spare next time.

Would you post a pic of the fender and where it broke? I have the extender and maybe a brace could be made to stop this.
Also how did you join the two, and what medium?
Thanks

Awe, you don't count Twisties, you are like family almost. LOL. Burr Trail was nice, high speed stuff, I was flying wingman off the shoulder of Jason on the 990 KTM. I tested the TC1 and TC2 plus high speed panic stopping on that trail, no worries. Really impressed by the ABS and front brake stopping in gravel!

On the break, I had done like 300 miles of offroad without a problem, this trail was just really rough and I hit several bad bumps/rocks hard. To repair I used a bungie to pull the fender together and applied JB Weld then layered on some carbon fibre mat. ABS sheet would have been the best but I didn't have any.

The break is like 2" above the end of the fender extenda underneath the fender. Will get some pictures up soon.

i was surprised the fender broke, but with the news of the extender it makes sense. I finally saw another one in Colorado. I ride mine to work every day (so much for my adventure touring, that's it for me), another Super Tenere rider stopped by and we talked quite a while about the bike ect. We pretty much saw the bike the same and were both happy with it. We both purchased at the same dealer 20 miles away.
Is he on the forum? Hope you invited him otherwise!!!

maybe I missed it, but did the fender break from vibration or contact?

From vibration or hard hits on the suspension. My fault for sure, should have aired down. I already had the front forks almost completely backed off on compression and rebound. Combination of running TOO fast on very rough conditions. My camera had maxed out on the disc so was limited to iphone pics by then.

The road was "Alpine Tunnel", will look for some pics on the net. Very hard old railroad bed with large embedded rocks. The Super T was well up to the task of any of these roads, and I had a blast to say the least!

We came down and went through Pitkin, beautiful little village like in a story book!

Dave,
As I read your post I am reminded of the guy who's (BMW 800GS) fender broke off while riding in the rough and it wedged between his tire & cross over brake line. This guy went down hard. (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=667236)
I think there is always a possibility, with the way the brake lines are routed, that this kind of thing can happen.
IMHO, I would not risk riding with a patched fender if I could avoid it.

I had already viewed that thread and watched the video. This is what kept me from breaking the fender off completely so I could continue. The crack went right through the hole where the crossover brake line is anchored. Granted the 800GS had knobbies, but I did not want to chance it.

The repair now is fine, but will probably break again sometime. I have a new fender on order, should be here next week. Doubt I will put another fender extenda on as I feel the extra weight added to the failure.

I have the Pyramid extender, and the side pieces run past the hole a little. I think that will help, also after seeing yours, I am going to glue some flat strap pieces of ABS running length ways on the fender past the first bolt(caliper). This may help, and it may not.. LOL but it is worth a try..

Bracing on the sides past the mounts would help, the cracks started on each side and ran up. Once the sides are cracked, it flops up and down with each bump.
