I know there are several seat threads (most old) but this one is a little different.

I've been wanting to replace the stock seats for a while but was waffling on which to get. The stock seat is OK and better than most stock seats but at about 1.5 hours, it really starts to get uncomfortable for me.

I decided to go with Sargent since I bought one previously that I thought was decent on my Z1000. I placed the order late last night and received a confirmation email shortly thereafter confirming the order info and price with tax and shipping. This morning I got an email with a detailed invoice showing that they threw in a free hat (ok, no biggie), took 10% off my order, and aren't charging me for shipping which saved me nearly $80 overall! I'm super happy about that obviously and can't wait to try it out on some long rides. I'll post pics and my impressions when I get it - I configured it to have red welts to match the red accent colors on the bike.

I'm guessing I got the discounts for being a repeat customer (the 10% off says "special discount") though I never saw anything on their site about it. Kudos to them!

I hope that it works for you, Joe. I have had several Sargents that I really loved and before they offered a replacement seat for the S10, I had them rebuild my OEM seat and it was pretty good. When they came out with the World Sport seat for the S10 I ordered one and found it to not be up to the standard that I had previously experienced with Sargent, as far as comfort. It was very hard. They later came out with a gen 2 version and I was able to exchange my gen 1 for that, but after a few thousand miles had to give up on it, as it was still very hard and uncomfortable for me. I talked tot my seat builder by phone and told him that the Sargent I had on my 08 KLR was the most comfortable seat I had ever had and he said that he couldn't build the S10 seat like that (I'm not sure why). I know the owners of Sargent and have had a very good relationship with them over the years, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get a World Sport seat for my new bike that would work for me.

Thanks Fred. We'll see how it works out. Worst case, I have a spare to use while I have the OEM seat customized :)

I had a Sargent seat on my 08 KLR, ST 1300 and now use one for touring on the Tenere. I guess they just work for me. The Sargent for the S10 does raise me up some so I only use it four longer rides. For every day riding I use the Yamaha low seat in the highest position. I find it more comfortable that the normal height stock seat.

The specs on Sargent's site actually show that the seat is lower but maybe it's wider which makes it feel taller because your legs splay a bit more.

I'm still using my 1st gen sargent seat. It wasn't worthwhile to ship it from Calgary to Sargent, and back, so I fixed it by using the sargent with an airhawk R.
Bliss.

This is what I am planning to do. I bought the Sargent seat, and for me, after almost 10K miles it is still too hard for my boney hind end.

I juse got the sargeant seat for my 14 (front and rear). Fit and finish are just top notch.

Yes, it's firm, but not corbin firm. I ride mostly road miles, so keep that in mind. My wife is still out on the final decision on passenger firmness. I like it and how it positions me with the fj09 handlebar. They work well together.

My only complaint is that it's slightly slick/slippery (more so than the oem, anyway), but thats minor to me.

Got my seat today and it looks awesome. The red matches the accents on the bike perfectly...it's called Cocktail (Decal) Red in case anyone is wondering.

I'm going to do a bit of riding this weekend to see how it feels after a few hours. Doesn't feel substantially different upon initially sitting on it.

That's a mighty handsome looking bike. And mighty clean, too. You might want to hire a kid to throw some mud on it. I wouldn't take it out in public looking like that. R ::025:: ::014:: ::012:: ::015:: ::003::

Actually it's pretty dusty but hasn't seen off-road action yet. The ride I'm doing this weekend will likely have gravel so I expect to come home much dirtier. ::022::

Update on my thoughts...
Rode into work today, it's about a 35-40 minute commute. The seat felt good. Usually, I can start to feel discomfort seeping in by the time I get there and didn't feel that today but I'll know better tomorrow after a longer ride.

One thing I noticed is that the passenger seat is wider and there's less room to get your hand on the grab rail to put it up on the center stand but no so much that it's a problem.

Hello,
One more thought :). When I got my Sargent I was not happy. But after installing Rox set backs I am extremely satisfied with the Sargent now. Without the set backs I was sitting on the narrow front part of the seat. Once I put on the set backs it allowed me to push back completely into the seat, utilizing the entire width. I am now a happy camper ::025::

If the Sargent doesn't work out for you, check out Seat Concepts. I love mine!
I weigh about 185lbs and thinking of seat concepts. I'm looking for comfort for long rides after an about 1 1/2 hrs the stock seat gets uncomfortable. Is the SC seat softer ? The web site says its wider but nothing about thickness I guess the real question is can you spend 3-5 hrs in the saddle and not bitch about the seat ?
Thanks

I felt the Seat concept solution was marginally better than the stock seat, but not all day comfortable at all for me. My ride went from 60 to 80 miles before discomfort stock, to about 100 to 120 miles with the Seat Concept. While it was better, it ended up being money thrown away. Wish I had saved my money and went Russell to begin with. Seat time is never an issue now with my Russell Day long. Best money I ever spent.

So far, the Sargent is more comfortable than stock but not all day comfortable for me. I will say if it starts to get uncomfortable, if I switch positions a bit it feels better for a good bit whereas on the stock seat, it gets uncomfortable again almost immediately. After a little break, it felt great again unlike stock. I definitely could stay on for a full tank before needing a break.
